Tooth sat outside the magnificent Bolshoi theatre, listening earnestly as somebody sang inside, a sweet and powerful soprano voice rising and falling, joined in harmony by others steadily. The opera was at its best at the moment; Tooth often visited Moscow when she could purely for this reason. Still, she did have to break from listening to tell the fairies where to get teeth, as they impatiently tapped her shoulder. Maybe when they were slightly older they would appreciate the beauty of arts such as this.
Hours later, when it had finished, a woman walked out of the back door, a smile of joy upon her face. She blinked at the sight of Tooth, the latter quickly realising that she was visible to this woman. She tried to fly away but the woman reached out a hand.
"Wait! Were you listening?" she asked hopefully, in beautiful Russian. Tooth flew closer, and hesitantly replied in the lovely woman's language.
"Yes. Who are you?" she asked, somewhat hesitantly. The woman broke into a dazzling smile and clasped her hands together, clearly pleased by the other's reply and unfazed by Tooth's somewhat extraordinary appearance.
"My name is Antonina. I'm a soprano here. I'm really glad that you were listening to me!" Her cheeks flushed and Tooth felt her own smile gracing her cheeks. Both women stayed like that for a while, before Tooth bowed to the woman and took off through the unusually snowy skies, glad that she had met the other, shocked that she still believed and above all wondering when she would have the chance to see the woman again.
This very short piece was written for the birthday of the soprano Antonina Nezhdanova. She was a fantastic singer, as far as I know, and if you have read this please review if you have the time.
