Rogue had been getting a routine check-up from Jean, when they found it. A lump under her right breast. They removed it, took the whole thing, and the other one just to be safe, but it wasn't enough. It was still spreading.

After all she'd done, after all she'd been through, this is what it all came down to. She was still human after all, even if she was a mutant.

They had taken her breasts, the one thing that made her a woman, her hair had all fallen out, even the white streaks she'd come to love. She boasted of being a relation to the Professor in attempt to ease the empty ache inside her, and the open ache the chemo provided.

Logan now sat with his dying wife, of scarcely two hours, feeling, for the first time in his life, truly helpless; and hating it. By midnight, she took her last breath, and, in all the ways that mattered, Logan died with her.
