In Confidence

I pushed my glasses farther up my nose, squinting through the pale blue light filtering through the grimy window placed high up the wall.

The rays illuminated those little bits of dust floating through the air (you know, the ones that drift about when you sneeze near an unclean surface) and they wandered around aimlessly, tickling my nose. You'd think with all the house elves around here they might get around to wiping off those windows sometime.

Even with the perpetual irritation in my nasal passages, I was quite content. I like to daydream in the morning, and this particular morning I wondered what it would be like to go down to the Great Hall for a bite to eat. I'd stuff my face full with roast beef and pumpkin pie, and with the slightest click of my fingers more food would appear, mounds and mounds of it!

I heard footsteps echoing down the passageway, harshly interrupting my vision. Selfish little pigs, I thought, don't they have any concern for people beside themselves?

A figure appeared, distraught and forsaken. He leaned up against the edge of the sinks, face buried in his hands. I peeked around the corner of a stall, wondering who this stranger was and not really minding that he had barged in on my perfect fantasy, because this was fairly interesting.

He lifted his head and turned, staring at his countenance in the mirror, anxiety playing across his features.

He was rather attractive- I'll admit that. He was tall, too, and his physique suggested many days spent out on the pitch for Quidditch practice.

But his eyes were shrouded in shadows, his appearance displaying his blatant fear. Of what, I did not know.

But I saw in his despondent expression a fate similar to my own. Here was this boy, lost and confused; at long last, someone I could relate to!

I bobbed along with the air current, drawing ever closer. It wasn't until I was almost next to him that he noticed me.

With a slight snarl he sprang backward, defensive and slightly embarrassed to be seen in such a wretched state.

We simply stared at each other for a long moment, both keeping our guards up.

I spoke first, watching his face carefully. I did not want him to leave.

"I'm Moaning Myrtle. This is my bathroom. What's… what's wrong?"

There was a long, tense pause, but I saw his wariness weaken gradually. My theory was confirmed- he needed a confidante.

"Do you want the short answer or the long?"

"I've got enough time to listen."

Draco Malfoy leaned against the wall wearily, ready to divulge his most private and confidential duties.

And that's how it began.

A/N: So… now that you've finished, would you mind reviewing it? Constructive criticism welcomed with a giant, fuzzy hug. :D
