This right here is dedicated to Carottal, for helping me choose a title for my last fic.

Disclaimer:

Ares (and I mean the whole Manhwa ;p) belongs to my hero, Ryu Geum Chul.

They were an odd pair, but they had managed to build up a strong friendship on the basis of 'opposites attract'. Somehow, it'd worked out. As of yet, neither boy had bothered to question why.

They were sitting beneath their favourite tree, backs leant against either side of the trunk. One meditating on his latest piece, the other searching the lush, knee-high grass for a fresh stalk as they awaited their friends' arrival.

"Where's Baroona and Ares?" Gohu asked lazily.

"Who knows?" Mikael's uninterested reply was about as good an answer as the aspiring artist had been expecting. He let his eyes close again.

That was when he heard it.

Meow.

He sat up. "Did you hear that?"

Mikael had known of the animal's prescence long before now, but he wasn't about to admit it. The last thing he wanted to do was go on some wild cat chase during what was supposed to be their day off. "I didn't hear anything." He answered flatly. Gohu was prone to daydreams and forgetfulness; if he could convince him that nothing had actually happened, maybe he could ward off whatever 'adventure' was likely to come after. It was a strategy that had worked before.

This time, he was not so lucky.

Meow. The cat was louder this time, as if in defiance of Mikael's thoughts. He swore to himself.

"There it is again!" Gohu was on his feet now, glancing in all directions. A moment of silence passed before Mikael heard the words he was dreading. "I found it!" Immediately, his afternoon tranquillity had become a thing of the past. Sighing deeply, the blue-eyed blond ran a hand through his hair, and then he leaned past the trunk, looking toward the spot where Gohu was standing. His heart dropped further. Gohu was staring straight up.

"Don't tell me," Mikael said. "It's in the tree." His friend nodded, and he knew what was coming next.

"Help me, I want to get it down."

"I'm sure it's fine." said Mikael. "Maybe it wants to be up there." But Gohu had already hoisted himself up into the leaves.

"No, he looks scared. I can see his claws."

Oh, thought Mikael. Good. He could hear Gohu rustling around somewhere above his head, and a wicked thought came into his mind. Grinning slyly, he put his hand on the hilt of his sword. "Here," he called. "I'll knock it down with my weapon." The rustling stopped.

"Are you crazy?! What if you hit me? Or what if he gets hurt?" The sounds of movement resumed, punctuated by yet another meow; then a long, hostile hiss. Gohu then proceeded to speak to the cat in soothing murmurs, but it wasn't enough to win it's affections. "Ow! He's bitting me!"

Mikael rolled his eyes. Reluctantly, he stood up and turned to face the tree as the cat let out another piercing yowl. "I've got him!" Gohu said triumphantly. "Now, you'd better catch him, alright? He's pretty mad!"

"Wait, what?" Startled, Mikael glanced up toward the sound of Gohu's voice, just in time to get a faceful of needle-sharp talons and white fur.

It took three weeks for the scratches to fade.

So, tell me... Did you love it?! XD
