Disclaimer: I own nothing of CSI
Dismissed
Jackie waited in line at the courthouse. She had been summoned for jury duty, she was actually kind of excited, she'd never been on a jury before and she'd always wanted too.
She'd been summoned once before but she had been nearly at the end of her pregnancy with Johnna so the people in charge of selecting a jury had released her for fear that she'd go into labor during the trial.
This time though she had made it to the next round, the interview round and she was happy about it.
During the very first question she was asked though a problem was encountered.
"Mrs. Stokes, you wouldn't by chance know CSI Nicholas Stokes would you?"
"Yes Ma'am I do, he's my husband."
"I'm sorry but you can't be on this jury, CSI Stokes is presenting evidence in this trial, Mr. Stokes is the CSI that worked this case when it happened, it would be a major conflict of interest if you were on the jury and if a guilty verdict was rendered it would be overturned in a heartbeat, thank you for your time though." The woman who was interviewing Jackie said with a kind smile.
"Thank you." Jackie replied with a smile before she left the courthouse and headed home.
"Hey how'd it go?" Nick asked her when she got home.
"Not well, I got booted, and it's your fault." She told him with a grin.
"What, why's it my fault?"
"Because apparently you are presenting evidence in the trial, and they obviously said it would be a conflict of interest for me to be on the jury."
"Oh, you got summoned for the Murray sexual assault trial?" Nick asked.
"I don't know, they never said which trial it was for, the very first question they asked me was if I was related to you and when I said yes you're my husband I was dismissed."
"Well the only trial coming up that I have to present evidence in is the Murray trial. Too bad you got booted, we could have used your bias." He said.
"Why, isn't there a strong case against him?" She asked.
"Well, kind of, we have DNA linking him to the assault, his only alibi is his pregnant wife, and we have a security video showing his truck leaving the apartment complex where the assault took place on the night it happened but the one thing that I could never figure out was a motive, and juries like to have a motive. My belief is that some people are just plain evil and that's why they do terrible things but juries like to have a better reason than that, I think because if some people are evil that means any one of us can be a victim at any time and nobody wants to think about that."
Jackie shook her head in agreement.
"I'm sure you'll do great and the guy will get convicted." She told him with a smile.
"Thanks, I wish I was that confident."
She smiled at him once again.
"Anyways, I didn't know you'd be home so soon so I ordered pizza for dinner is that ok?"
"Yeah sounds great, thanks." She answered.
She then went upstairs to change into more comfortable clothing.
She was a little disappointed about not getting to be on the jury but there was nothing she could do about it so she pushed it from her mind, but she made a mental note to give Nick some gentle razzing about getting her dismissed even though he couldn't help it.
The End!
