Cassandra tossed and turned on her bed in her dorm room. It was the dream again. A huge, dark room. A man, chained to the floor, and a young woman, tied to a post. Someone was hitting the man with a whip and he roared in pain, struggling against the chains binding him to the floor.
Than, another man entered the room. This one was tall and pale yet had an authority about him. He began to speak but she could not hear him over the agony filled cries from the man on the floor. He left and a hole opened up in the ceiling, allowing sunlight to hit the woman. Her cries of pain filed her ears and she was shaken awake.
Cassandra sat up quickly, wrapping her arms around Skyler and burying her face in his neck, sobs raking her body as she shook. He held her closely and asked,
"What is it Cass?" He looked at her as his older brother, Craig, came stumbling into the room sleepily. He yawned and looked at Skyler and Cassandra on the bed.
"Sky-man, if you're gonna rape her, at least do it quietly." Skyler glared at him and he chuckled, joining them and touching Cassandra's shoulder gently.
"Cassio?" He called her pet name and she looked up slowly, the screams dying away in her head.
"I had that dream again. The older one he…somehow killed the woman tied to the post with sunlight." She closed her eyes against the image and Skyler rubbed her arm comfortingly.
"It was just a dream Cass." He said and she nodded, looking at him. He was right, she thought. It was only a dream.
"Yeah, just a dream." She repeated, more for herself than in agreement to him. She forced a smile and shrugged. "Sorry Sky, sorry Craig." Craig shrugged and stood up with Skyler.
"Well then…we'll see ya at lunch then." He said and they left, taking their comfort with them. Cassandra took a deep breath and laid back, staring at the ceiling. This was another one of those times she wished she had a mother.
She sighed and rolled over, closing her eyes and relaxing slowly. She sighed quietly as sleep claimed her body again.
