The last two weeks had been horrible; what with all the fighting, sabotage, campaigning, pranks, and all around chaos. It was almost time to end the torture, only to begin another round. Whatever the envelope held beyond its glued lid, next Friday would be the worst day of my short seventeen years. The principal continued to slowly open the golden packet. I looked down my row; I would've laughed at the picture I saw, if the atmosphere wasn't so tense that is.
At the end of the line was Alice, smug as always, having seen the product of the situation. Edward, sitting next to me, wore a knowing smirk. Of course having seen what Alice saw. Rosalie, on the other side of Edward, Looked completely uninterested in the outcome. No surprise there. Jasper, poor, poor Jasper; was more or less cringing beside Alice; the one-hundred or so individual emotional sets obviously effecting him.
And Emmet, Emmet was so far off his seat that he was almost standing. The expression he wore was one of a child watching his favorite sport for the first time. His concentration on Mr. Greene was so intense that I don't think a freight train coming straight at him would've broken it.
Nobody made a noise as Principal Greene lifted the think, scarlet, folded piece of paper out of its packaging. Edward's soft chuckle broke the silence around me, nearly making me jump. I looked to him questioning. He merely nodded his head to the side. Emmet was so ridged, he could've been shaking. And Jasper looked just as excited as he was.
Mike turned to glare at us, having already won in his own mind. I highly doubted that he did, well hoped is more like it. But either way I was doomed.
Mr. Greene cleared his thought for attention. No-one breathed as he opened his mouth to speak. "And now for the moment we have all been waiting for! The Winner of the Forks High Principal for a Day Election is…"
