It was just like him, really, to fall asleep on the couch watching the late-night monster movie he'd insisted on staying up for.

"Sometimes I forgot you're just a kid, Jinpei," Ken muttered with a small smile, draping a blanket over the Swallow's sleeping form.

"I knew he wouldn't make it all the way through," Jun laughed, walking into the room with a mug of coffee in each hand. "But Ryu passed out sometime before that, and I just had to pry a car magazine out of Joe's hand so he wouldn't get paper cuts in his sleep." She held out one of her hands. "Here, fresh from the percolator."

"Looks like it's just us, then," Ken sighed, taking the offered mug. "Thanks."

They made themselves comfortable on the other end of the couch, which was thankfully long enough so that they could avoid being kicked if Jinpei began to thrash about in his sleep for some reason.

"It's been a while since I've gotten to be alone with you and we weren't on a mission," Jun sighed. "I like this."

"Jun, you know we're here to keep watch over the base and nothing else," Ken reminded her as they set down their half-empty mugs.

"I know, I know." Jun closed her eyes. "But sometimes it's nice to pretend we're together just for the sake of it."

With a small laugh, he slid an arm around her waist, resting his head atop hers.

"For what it's worth, I'm glad it's you I'm doing night watch with," he said.
