"No

OK, I don't know why Heero's dying or how they got on the beach or what's really going on here. Make it up for yourself, I'm helping your creative genius while practising my writing skills! As my friend Claire (hi Claire!) said to me once, "I just write the words!" - you gotta interpret for yourself.

Enjoy!

"No. NO. NO! No, please no, Heero, no, no, Heero…no, please…no…"

Tears coursed down Duo's face as he kneeled in the sand, holding Heero in his arms. The sun was slowly sinking to meet the ocean, setting everything ablaze with it's orangey-pink light.

"No," Duo muttered again as he gazed down into his lover's eyes.

"It's…it's alright, Duo…" Heero whispered. "Don't…cry for me…"

"You can't die!" Duo sobbed. "You can't go! Don't leave me, please, not yet, not now, not…not like this…"

"Like this, is…good. It's right…"

"Good?" Duo cried. Heero, you're leaving me, that's not right! How can it be? Heero…oh, how am I meant to live without you? You're all I've…you…are all I… Heero, I love you so much… Stay with me. Please…stay…"

"Duo…" Heero squeezed his hand gently. "I don't want to leave you… I don't want to go… But I'm not meant to be…here….not…. Not anymore…"

Duo gasped. "This can't be it, though…" He leaned down and kissed Heero gently. "It just…can't. How can it be over? The end… The end of…it all…"

Heero looked sincerely up at him through tears that sparkled in the fading light.

"I'm happy…for it to be this way… It doesn't hurt, not now. I'm here, our beach, our favourite place… And it's beautiful, so beautiful…it's so… And, you're here. I love you so much, Duo. You're with me… I'm with you… I'll always love you, always I will…"

Heero sighed.

"And you'll see me…again…I promise…"

The sun set behind the horizon and the world became shadowy, blood red.

Duo squeezed his eyes shut. The bitter tears would never stop, he knew.

"No…no…"

"I promise…."

And Heeros closed his eyes for the last time.

Duo pulled Heero's body to him and held him tight.

"Please," he whispered over and over, shaking. "Please, please… No… NO!"

Duo laid Heero down on the sand once more, kissing his lips so lightly, his tears falling on to Heero's peaceful face.

Duo stood up and screamed his pain, his anguish wordlessly at the night sky.

Exhausted, all purpose and determination suddenly gone forever, he kneeled down by Heero again. Taking both his hands in his own, he held them to his face and wept.

Duo awoke in the pale light of the early morning. He felt the cool sea-breeze on his skin and the tears still pouring down the face that only yesterday had been grinning constantly. He felt raw emotions beyond anything he could ever have imagined, and emptiness that hurt so much it was almost physical.

Perhaps he should just lie there and let himself die.

Let himself die surrounded by the peace, by the beauty of the ocean and the silence of the morning.

Die with Heero…

But he found himself on his feet.

"Heero," he whispered, looking down at his lover, beautiful, perfect, sleeping forever.

"Heero… I told you… I told you not to come close…. But you… But you did! You said, it'll be alright. You said, you'd do anything, and you didn't care, and you, and, it'd be worth it….

I told you not to love me.

I told you not to let me love you.

Because they ALL DIE! Everyone, everyone person I care about, ever person I love, they go, they leave, they DIE. And I loved you, so much… More than anyone, more than ANYTHING… I love you…

And I told you I was the god of death."

Duo looked out to the endless sea.

"I told you I was Shinigami."

Hanging his head, Duo turned and walked away.
