It was never enough. It didn't matter how many times they saved the world; it was still not enough. He had countless lives saved and successful missions underneath his proverbial belt, but it still wasn't enough. He could have laid down his life to save the world, and still Evil would continue to rear its ugly head.

No matter how hard he worked or how valiant his heroics, it was just never enough, and Skipper was exhausted. Every part of his body hurt, and his very soul was drained. It was times like these that Skipper didn't remember why he kept fighting so hard, why he kept giving it his all, and fighting for a constantly thankless world.

Then he heard Private's excited voice cheering, "We did it, Skipper!" He turned toward him, a small, hesitant smile curving his beak, and as always, when he gazed upon his joyful love, he remembered why they fought, why he pushed himself and his men so hard. It wasn't for the world at large that they really fought but rather for their piece of the world, for their family.

He reached out, took Private's flipper in his, and smiled. He kissed him. "Let's go home," he then said tiredly but happily, and they did.

The End
