Broken
It was broken. Velvet sat against the wall of the empty room she had managed to find. Tears rolled down her eyes and her rabbit ears drooped as she stared at the object in her hands.
'Stupid Cardin, stupid bullies, stupid, stupid humans! Everyone back home was right. Humans are just mean and cruel and I hate them, I hate them I hate them I hate them.' Velvet cried harder, sobbed wracking her body. 'He just broke it, even after I begged him not to. I just wish that all of them would just-' Velvet's mental rant was cut short by the clearing of someone's throat. She looked up and saw a blond kid standing there, he was in some of her classes; Jaune Arc.
"I would ask if you were okay but that seems a bit unnecessary." "What do you want?" Her words were laced with as much venom as she could muster in her state. Jaune looked uncomfortable. "I, uh, heard that Cardin messed with you pretty badly. I didn't see it but some kids said you were crying, so I decided to see if I could help. Um, can I help you?"
Velvet's rage diminished a bit. This human wanted to help her. "Why?" Velvet asked wiping her tears away. "Why would you help me?" John sat down next to her and shrugged. "I don't know. I guess it's because I can understand what it's like being Cardin's punching bag. So what did he do?" Velvet showed him what she held in her hands, a music box who's ballerina was twirling, but no music came out. "He broke my music box. It was my mothers and I wanted to show to my friend, but then Cardin came and he just took it. No matter how much I begged he just kept it shaking it around, and the worst part is no one tried to help. Not even my friend. Now it's broken and there's nothing I can do." Jaune looked at it for a second before saying.
"If it's broken, then that means we fix it." Velvet marveled at the words that would influence her for the rest of her life. But now there were other things on her mind. "Fix it? Can you really do that?" Jaune nodded. "I kind of clumsy, so eventually I learned how to fix the things I break. Now let me take a look at it?" Jaune reached his hand out and Velvet hesitated for a second. What if this was just a trick? What if Cardin sent Jaune to just break it even more? Velvet pushed the thoughts aside and gave the music box to Jaune. She had to believe that he could fix it. Jaune face turned to one of concentration as he opened up the music box and looked inside. Velvet stared in wonder as his hands became a blue of activity, moving gears and realigning strings.
After what felt like hours Jaune put the box back together and handed it to Velvet. "Here, it might sound a little off, but I did my best." Velvet held the box, hands shaking, and opened it. The little ballerina danced and a song came on. Velvet felt tears come to her eyes as she heard the song she had sung so many times with her mother. "Hey. Is everything okay? Why are you crying?" Velvet smiled at him. "Every thing is great Jaune. Thank you so much. You really did fix it. Thank you." Velvet hugged Jaune as tears of joy rolled down her face. It was fixed now.
