"Goodbye"
That was the title of the video.
You figured it was some silly story Phil had to tell. You smiled as you clicked on the link, you'd been looking forward to AmazingPhil's next video as usual. You found it odd that he hadn't announced it on his tumblr, but you clicked anyway, and smiled wider in anticipation.
An empty chair sits on the screen, and Dan comes into the frame.
"Hello, Internet!" You expect him to say. But instead he just looks down.
A few moments later he looks at the camera lens. His eyes are red and puffy and his cheeks look tear-stained as he stares into your eyes.
"Hello, Phil's subscribers. I've something to tell you today." You narrow your eyes in concern. Dan looks very upset, and where's Phil? This is his channel, after all.
"This will be the last video... On the channel AmazingPhil." You jump slightly, shocked, and lean in closer to your computer screen as Dan gathers up the courage to speak again. You notice that the video isn't edited.
"Two days ago, Phil was the victim of a hit-and-run." A tear slides down Dan's cheek, and he wipes it away, sniffing quietly. As he raises his hand to brush away the tear, you notice cuts on his wrist. You shake your head. It can't be true, it's a prank, it's...
"He sat in a hospital bed for a few hours, but by the time I heard about it... He was dead." Your stomach flips and your eyes begin to water. Not Phil...
"So that's it then. No more AmazingPhil... And... No more Danisnotonfire either." You hear is voice break, and your heart breaks with it.
"I can't... Anymore. Not without Phil, I couldn't..." By now the tears are streaming down your face, and Dan begins to sob openly.
"I'm so sorry. It's been a good run." Then he says the words you've been dreading since the beginning:
"Goodbye, Internet."
