Without Limitations
Too much has happened. Please accept my apologies. I am sorry.
"Shalimar," Adam's voice calls.
The small house on the mountaintop is unlit. There are three rooms. Two are off limits. They are accessible only by hidden doors. The hollowness of the floor suggests there being an underground tunnel.
Adam enters the first, and largest, room. He has been three times before. Shalimar had been waiting for him then. She was relaxed during those check-ups. Her vanishing act this time makes him worry. On her own territory she would never hide.
"You came,"
He looks to his left. A candle holder is in her left hand. The candle is lit. The flame flickers behind a glass case. Shalimar smiles but he isn't convinced.
"What happened to you?" he gestures to her attire.
"It makes me feel more⦠civilised," she responds; a slight edge to her voice.
Her hair is wound up in a tight bun. Her face has at least two layers of make-up. Her blouse is covered with a dark corset. She wears high black boots with slim jeans. The flame's light catches on her bracelets and dangling earrings.
"Besides, this kind of outfit costs a lot. I do my best not to have to buy what I can't afford," she grimaces.
"I haven't got anything," he sighs.
She nods in understanding. "I didn't expect you to,"
Shalimar has been living in her cabin for over two years. Her mutant abilities fluctuated. She was slowly becoming more and more feral. She left to protect them. They each received a letter. The message was the same. Adam was the only one to receive two.
"Are you going to come back with me?" he dares to hope.
"I can't go back; not like this," she gestures to her clothes.
"Do you want a check-up?" Adam suggests.
"Can we just talk?" her voice is little more than a whisper.
My friends,
It's been too long. I'm sad to say that I'm not coming back. You won't find me. I'm somewhere more peaceful now. I'm better off where you can't follow.
I don't expect you to be happy. A part of me wants you to be angry. Let me know somehow, if there is a place for those long gone, that I have affected your lives. I want to know how much I mean to you all. There are no words for how much you all mean to me.
If there is a place, I will watch over you. I'll wait for you.
It's too late to say but I miss you.
Author's Note: AU. She left before her father became involved. I haven't watched beyond Emma's last series. There were too many changes. I grew up with those five. It's safe to say that I hate Lexa very, very much. I'm also peeved with those in charge of the series. Anyway, that doesn't join. Emma didn't die. There was no accident. It's an alternate universe. One that I'm far more happy with. Take this how you will. I didn't say that she died. So, I thank you for reading. I hope you've enjoyed my tale. Please accept my apologies if the story, only the story, hasn't been to your satisfaction.
