Hey all! I know, I haven't posted in a decade and a half, but I just missed you all ever so much!! This is a reworking of part of a larger story that is still in progress- it required a few character deletions and reference deletions, so you may see it again someday as part of something much bigger, but as it is here, it's fun on its own. I hope you enjoy it!!

Oh yeah, and disclaimer: they still aren't mine. psh.

Elphaba leaned heavily on the table as she bent down to pick up her heavy sorcery textbook for about the eightieth time. "Do it again."

Galinda threw her training wand at the wall. It bounced right back to her. "I'm never going to get this!" She threw herself dramatically into the only cushioned chair in the room. "How come nobody told me sorcery was so hard?"

The green girl, sitting where Galinda couldn't see her (at least not when she was sprawled across her comfortable armchair) stifled a laugh behind her long, slender emerald fingers and perked up a little. "Galinda, darling, if you get it right three more times, I'll even consider feeding you!"

Galinda turned and glared severely at her, decided that her roommate would make a better wand target than the wall, and threw the wand at her instead. Elphie caught it deftly, spun it, levitated the sorcery book, and threw the wand back to Galinda. The book stayed in the air until Galinda touched the wand again, at which point it dropped back to the ground with a heavy thud. Galinda scowled. Elphaba rolled her eyes.

The girls had been there for three hours now. Madame Morrible was testing them in practical sorcery the next day, and Galinda was hopelessly behind. The blonde tried hard, but she just couldn't seem to get the knack of levitation. Elphaba, still somewhat sore at Galinda's continuous needling about keeping up her appearance, was reveling in her roommate's seeming inability to perform the simple spell, but even she was starting to get sick of the practice session. Suddenly an idea came to her. All the magic that Galinda had been doing well with- creating illusions to make things more attractive, for example- was involved in either a) benefiting Galinda or b) making something look pretty.

"Galinda, give me your lip gloss," Elphaba instructed. Galinda sighed and pulled herself up, reaching into her designer purse and yanking out her lip gloss with enough force to convince any passerby that it had committed some great wrong against her. "Throw it at me and I'll stick it up your nose from across the room," the green girl warned. Galinda rolled her eyes and spun the narrow pink tube across the table to her. Elphaba centered it on the table and flicked her own wand expertly, making the lip gloss tube shudder. "Right. Now, levitate it or I'll break it and smear it all over that pretty white silk blouse of yours."

Galinda was on her feet in a second, blue eyes flashing and wand pointed towards her roommate. The lip gloss picked itself up and stayed in the air. Galinda's wand dropped with her jaw.

Elphaba grinned in satisfaction. "There, now we know you can get it. Now do it with the book."

Galinda looked from Elphaba back to her lip gloss, which was still hovering three feet above the table. Setting her pretty pink lips in a firm line, she swept the wand toward the book, which shakily picked itself off the table and went to join her makeup. She smiled broadly, went and plucked the pink tube and the book out of the air, tossed her shimmering blonde hair over her shoulder and jerked her head toward the door, making her curls swing. "Dinner, dearest?" And she turned and walked out the door.

Elphaba just shook her head, smiled, and followed her roommate out.
