Author's notes: I actually wrote this one-shot on November 23, 2005, though I'm uploading it now.
The reason I wrote it was because I was telling one of my friends how I never really wrote anything in a POV other than third-person. So, she challenged me to write something in the first-person, from the perspective of an animal.
So, I wrote about a Pokémon. I don't plan on continuing this story, though that may change if I get inspiration. However, if you read this and wish to make a longer story out of it, go ahead. I only ask that you create my story for your inspiration and that is all.
Disclaimer: I have never owned nor claimed to have owned Pokémon. Pokémon belongs to Nintendo and Satoshi Tajiri.
Dark, dank, and dismal were three words you could use to describe how the forest was on this night. Normally it was warm and friendly, though a bit shady. But with this rain and almost pitch-black darkness, any small, inexperienced Pokémon would be panicking. One of these small, frightened creatures on this night was a Pichu, unfamiliar with its surroundings. It had hatched earlier that morning, so not only was it weak, but it had hardly any idea of where it was.
Everything was so big and confusing, it was wet and cold, too. I didn't know where to run, but with every single sound of thunder and flash of lightning, which was quite often, I panicked and darted in the other direction.
This morning when I came out of that egg, I had come across a lot of different looking things. Most of them ignored me, but others out right hissed at me. I figured that they didn't want to help me. I was alone.
The rain, thunder, and lightning just made it worse. I had never seen any of these things happen before. Any noise frightened me even more; a stick breaking, a tree falling over. Each time one of these things happened, electricity escaped from my cheeks, catching the water and shocking me. I was too tired to move much any more.
Suddenly I spotted a hole in a tree; a shelter! I ran to it as fast as I could, which was not very fast at all, for I was limping from the bruises I had gotten. I walked inside, amazed at the tree's dryness on the inside. Letting out a sigh of relief, I noted that the sigh sounded like one of the two sounds I seemed to make. It was the second sound, the "Chu" sound.
Shockingly I heard a grunt from the darkness in the tree, which informed me that I wasn't the only thing in there. The maker of the grunt stepped out of the darkness, showing that it was a large, scary looking creature, with a big pouch. Before I could flee, the monster seized me, putting me in its soft pouch. I squirmed, thinking that it was going to harm me. Another creature was in the pouch, too. It was small, like me, and it snuggled up against me, trying to dry me off and make me warmer. The big monster just patted me on the head and yawned, quickly drifting off to sleep.
For once in my so far short existence I felt comforted and loved. My fear dissipated and I fell asleep, glad that I had found something to care for me.
