Where's the Red?
I don't own anything Superman related.
This is a total piece of fluff that popped in my head today. Normally I don't write, but it was such a short piece I decided to get it out of my head.
Superman dashed in and out of the blazing building. He was a blue blur as he raced against the fire trying desperately to get to those who hadn't been able to make it out in time.
Reporter Tom Delancey of News 47 anxiously reported the live coverage. His heart was with the people in the building, but his mouth quickly reported the facts to the audience.
"The fire started almost an hour ago by what is believed to have been a gas leak. A resident noticed the smoke and immediately called 911. However, many of the residents on the top floors were unable to safely leave due to the fire escapes being in disrepair. Superman has been working on retrieving those people stuck on the top floors."
The reporter turned and the camera focused on the Man of Steel as he flew down a family of three. The woman was crying and holding onto her two children. When Superman landed rescue workers quickly took the family for medical care. Superman turned and scanned the building. He spoke to the nearest fireman, "Everyone is out."
Tom, with cameraman in tow, quickly walked up to Superman. "Excuse me Superman."
Superman turned towards Tom with a smile.
"Can you tell us anything about what you know about the fire?" Tom held out his microphone.
"Nothing that the fire department has not already told you - it was a gas leak and the fire was made worse due to negligence of the fire escapes. Let it be known how important it is to keep up the maintenance on these things." Superman crossed his arms and stood in his usual regal pose.
Tom nodded, "Thank you Superman. Quite a few people are thanking you for their lives today."
"Just doing what I can."
"One more question." When Superman nodded, Tom continued, "Did your cape get destroyed in the fire?"
Tom could have sworn he detected a slight blush on the Man of Steel who had a notably absent amount of red on his back.
"Uh no." Superman paused as if trying to decide what he should say, but then he gave a slight smile. "I have to go."
"Of course. Thank you Superman." The camera turned to Superman as he flew away.
Lois looked up from the TV when she heard the window open. "Quick exit there."
Clark smiled as he walked over to his wife and gave her a kiss. "I wasn't sure what to say." His eyes focused on a room in the back of the house. "She still has it."
Lois smiled, "In a vice grip." She took her husband hand as they made there way towards the back of the house.
Clark quietly looked in the soft yellow room. He wrapped his arm around Lois as his gaze fell onto the one year old sleeping girl who had wrapped herself around his red cape.
Lois grinned, "Maybe we should ask your Mom to make another one. Might be easier than trying to pry it out of her hands every time you have to go save the world."
Clark laughed quietly as he shut the door.
