Damon's lying where Logan left him in the warehouse, the wooden bullets still lodged in his skin. He keeps his eyes locked on the ceiling as he recovers. Something in his chest wishes Stefan was here to help him to his feet, but he shakes his head and the feeling disappears, leaving him hollow.

He had told Logan that everything you feel as a human would be magnified as a vampire. It's the truth. Every ounce of love he felt for Katherine was amplified; every bit of love he had for Stefan was amplified. But the love became twisted. Katherine became an obsession and the brotherly love he felt for Stefan became incestuous. Not that Stefan knew that. No one knew.

He remembers the years spent being his brother's shadow, masquerading as a monster when all he wanted was Stefan to be his. Did that make him a monster? Did that make him as bad as everyone claims him to be?

Damon sighs and feels the wounds begin to close. Logan's gone off somewhere. Suddenly, it hits him. Logan's obsessed with finding out the Salvatore secret. If Damon didn't tell him, the next stop would be Stefan.

He could lie here forever and Stefan would probably be happy he's gone. His brother would be relieved that Damon had disappeared out of his life. Then he and Elena could live happily ever after and Damon would still be alone. Maybe it'd be easier to lie here than to go out and see his brother, his unrequited love, courting some stupid human. But. . .

But if he lays here, he'll never see his brother again. He'll never hear Stefan's voice and he'll never know if Stefan's love for him was twisted the same way Damon's was. He could lie here forever. He really could.

And with a groan of pain, Damon stands and goes to find his brother.
