Chapter 1
"Cora, please stop crying."
No response, just more sniffling and sobbing.
"CORA!" I shouted, annoyed with my sister. Sure I was going away to college at the U; starting my life again. I was determined to erase from my mind all of my past challenges and become a better, smarter person—I mean, heck, I had been accepted to university, so that must mean something.
Cora, Jamie and I were currently standing in the airport, waiting for my flight to arrive. Jamie was standing beside me with his arm wrapped around Cora, smiling at me like a proud father instead of the brother-in-law he was. Cora was sobbing uncontrollably, her face nestled in the crook of Jamie's neck.
Eventually, I decided to forgive her for attempting to filter out all the lies mom told me and insinuate the truth about what really happened into my mind.
Standing there, I decided that she was trying to fill in for mom's place in my life and, like her, I was sad to leave both her and Jamie. I was also really scared to re-start my life on my own.
But then I realized: I'm not starting it on my own, I have my friends and family helping me along the way.
A loud piercing voice shook me out of my thoughts. It was the announcer over the P.A, announcing that my flight had arrived and the attendants were ready to start allowing passengers onto the plane. I gave Jamie and Cora big hugs and kisses and went to board the plane. But before I boarded, I turned around and gave one last wave to my family.
