A/N: This was my entry to a fic challenge at the challenge community 'legendland' at livejournal. The prompt was "rain".

"I am fed up with this weather!" Cara said as she walked along with the others in the pouring rain. "Isn't there anything you can do about it, Wizard? It will do us no good if we all end up sick."
Zedd's face reddened slightly as they all stopped and turned their attention to him. "Ah, yes, I guess I should tell you... this weather isn't natural. It was caused by magic. Powerful magic! ...my magic."

Cara shared confused looks with Richard and Kahlan before they all moved their attention back to the wizard again. "And what, exactly, did you do?" asked Richard.
"I have been rather concerned about all the horses we have lost or misplaced during the last couple of years," explained Zedd, "so when we acquired the last four, I decided to place tracer-clouds on them. Just as a magical precaution, you know."
"There are no horses here now though," Kahlan pointed out. "We lost those days ago."
"I know that!" Zedd sounded slightly aggravated at being interrupted. "You see, as I was chanting the incantation, I suddenly sneezed... and it seems the tracer-clouds were placed on your weapons instead."

Richard looked from his sword and up towards the clouds, raising one arm to shield his eyes from the seemingly never-ending rain. "That explains the clouds, but not the rain." He looked back at his grandfather.
"I believe the sneeze might account for that too, my boy."

Cara couldn't help but roll her eyes. "It's been raining for days!" she exclaimed. "Couldn't you have undone it once you realized what had happened?"
Zedd looked at her as if she had suggested he sprout wings and lay eggs. "Never tamper with a spell that has gone awry! Rule number 113! Besides, I had been hoping it would pass on its own, before you three noticed." He gazed up, and then turned back to the three of them. "No such luck, it seems."

"But what do we do?" asked Kahlan.
"I have a complicated plan involving a duck, some blackberry sauce and -"
"I was talking about the rain, not your dinner." Kahlan interrupted him.
"Oh, the rain. There's nothing to be done about that, I'm afraid. We will just have to wait it out, however long it takes!"
And with that he walked on, leaving three incredulous companions to ponder his words.

"...I don't think he's telling the truth," said Kahlan, "and did you notice that he was completely dry?"
"Yes," confirmed Richard with a frown, "while we are thoroughly soaked. Do you think he's just getting back at us for eating those leftovers while he was napping, last month?"
"I wouldn't put it past him!" Kahlan declared, wearing a frown of her own.
Cara said nothing; she just glared after the wizard while toying with her agiel.

A bit further down the path, Zedd smiled. "That ought to teach them a lesson or two about eating my food!" he muttered and was quite pleased with himself.
