once upon a time
'Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess who fell in love with a handsome knight in shining armor, and the handsome knight in shining armor in turn fell in love with the beautiful princess. But the princess was kidnapped and placed in a castle with crystalline white walls of marble and winding stairs of purest color. She was kept in the top-most tower and locked up as her prince rushed to save her with his brave companions. Evil villains in coats of darkest black—'
That's not how it goes.
'—stood at attention and tried their hardest to prevent him from finding her and rescuing his princess. They failed at his hands one by one as he demanded to see where she was. When he finally unlocked those final double doors of crystalline white and made of purest marble the princess hurried forward to meet him, happiness in her deep blue eyes—'
That's not how it goes. There is a prince with deep serene blue eyes and chocolate brown hair full of spikes with his faithful mage and warrior companions and a beautiful princess with bubbly emotions and cheery violet eyes—
There's no blue-eyed princess that the prince rushes to save.
—and cheery violet eyes with maroon-wine hair on an island far away who awaits for her prince to return from his journey—
…there shouldn't be a blue-eyed princess trapped within a castle made with crystalline white walls of marble and winding stairs of purest color that a blue-eyed spiky-haired prince rushes to save…
—so she can keep her promise of always being with him and waiting to see him again and get her lucky charm back from him—
…right? So why is she there? A certain prince made a promise to a certain princess that a certain blue-eyed witch is trying to break, but that is wrong, right? …Even though that blue-eyed witch believes she loves the prince and would prefer to be in the princess's place, right?
Naminé blinked and stopped her yellow crayon in mid-stroke. Dropping said crayon, she picked up a red crayon instead and overrode the previous yellow color that was the girl's hair.
'Once upon a time there was a beautiful princess who fell in love with a handsome knight in shining armor, and the handsome knight in shining armor in turn fell in love with the beautiful princess. But they were separated when darkness overcame their home, and the prince vowed to find her again. He fought the darkness and won, finding his princess in return. But they were separated again when the prince left to a castle with crystalline white walls of marble and winding stairs of purest color where a blue-eyed witch that looked so much like his princess tricked him. She atoned for her crime and promised to return the princess back to the prince some time later and now she sits in a certain white room drawing certain pictures with certain blue eyes hidden beneath blonde hair.'
—and for now, she can't remember his voice or his face or his name but she knows he once was there and that someday he'll come back.
