Kind of Magnificent
In that fleeting darkness that enveloped the room, Max listened to the footsteps of the Sector Police that ran by in a hurry, searching the rooms for the missing A1W members. They wouldn't be there, she knew that for certain, but they didn't. In the last instant before they reached the foot of the metal steps they descended, she felt Brain's strong arms envelope her and pull her toward him. She didn't know what he was doing at first, but then it dawned on her; he was saving her life again.
"Clear," One of the sector police rand through on her walkie-talkie.
When the officer had left the room, Max nearly jumped out of his arms. "Brain! You…" Max stared down at the lifeless body of the boy she'd known for no longer than four hours, she wondered why it happened that way; if he knew it would happen that way. I saw you… The words rang in her ears, forcing her to brush away the tears that followed. What are the chances, you and me…? She smiled at the thought, knowing the chances were one hundred percent certain.
Did he know? He could see the future, he had to have been aware that she would do what she did next; she wondered if he knew about it. Laying her head against his chest, she kissed him softly on the cheek. It would have been his only wish; she was nearly certain of that. We could live happily ever after; that's ninety-seven percent certain. The smile was still there, still playing with the corners of her mouth. He was a joker, but serious at the same time. There had to be a way to immortalize his image.
"Why did you take so long to find me?" She asked, hoisting him over her shoulder. She'd call Logan and see if he could help her get him out of there – maybe give him a proper burial that he deserved. Freak or not, he deserved the basic rights as everyone else did.
"Thank you for doing this, Logan, I really appreciate it. I don't really care what people would say, as long as they see him. He spent his whole life being walked around, avoided, forgotten…he didn't want anyone to remember him, he just wanted to be seen…I think he deserves that." Shoving her hands in her pockets, Max left the room, her heart torn for the second time since Ben died. "I think he deserves the chance to continue living even when he's not alive."
You know, I never noticed it before, but he's kind of…magnificent. ~Alec
I know it's a drabble, and it's kind of short...but I don't care. I felt so torn at the end of this episode, I needed to write this. T_T
