Hey fellas! I decided that I was going to rewrite this story because I know for a fact that this could have been written better! This fanfic used to be titled: The Adventures of Isabella Barbossa COTBP, something like that. I feel like I've totally progressed with my writing, and I'm thinking of going back into all of my stories and rewriting the ones I haven't updated in forever. I'm trying to take a small break for my fanfic The Other Stark, because I've had such a hard time with it lately, not with inspiration, but I'm still trying to figure out what to do with it and what I'm going to do with it in the future, that type of stuff. Anyway, I really hope those of you that read this will give it a chance and enjoy it! This was a story I originally wrote for fun! Please review and be as nice about it as you possibly can! And I don't mean lie and sugar coat everything, but I don't want any haters. That's all! Thank you and enjoy!
At one point in my life, I loved adventure, I loved sailing the open seas.
But now? Not so much...
I was born into the life of piracy and originally I was known to the world as Isabella Juliet Barbossa, daughter to the infamous pirate Hector Barbossa. The girl I was before, used to speak out and didn't have any filter when it came to speaking her mind. I used to tell it how it was, how I saw things. One day, I apparently went too far. One day, I was mutinied by my own father. When Barbossa decided he'd had enough of following orders, he became the new captain of the Black Pearl. Originally, the captain of the Black Pearl, Captain Jack Sparrow was the first to be mutinied against. My father and along with the crew took charge and dumped Jack Sparrow on an island with nothing but a pistol with one shot and his sword. Another member of the crew, 'Bootstrap' Bill Turner spoke out of turn, saying that tossing Jack Sparrow like garbage was wrong and despicable. Not in those exact words, but he got his message across.
Let's just say that didn't end so well for him after we found the treasure of Cortés.
Bootstrap was tied and thrown down into the ocean, straight into Davvy Jones' Locker. Everything had happened so fast and at this point I was outraged with my father, who was obviously drunk with power. When I finally argued with him in front of the entire crew, I was also tossed away.
Ironically at the island Jack Sparrow was at. Funny how that works huh?
After Jack and I had parted our ways once we escaped the island, we went our separate ways. After that third day on the island, after we left, I had enough with being a follower. I wanted to chart my own course, I wanted to be my own leader. Eventually, I too, had made a name for myself over seas as a captain.
But of course, things don't last forever.
It was after a deadly storm, one that killed my crew and sunk my precious ship, that I was stranded in the middle of ocean. It took days until I was able to find land, only holding onto a floating scrap of wood from my old ship.
And that's how I ended up in Port Royal.
And of course, time moved on. I decided to get my life together, and start anew in Port Royal. I managed to get a job with a blacksmith, who ironically was Bootstrap's son.
William Turner.
"Isabella! We need to burn more coal!" Will yelled.
I snapped out of my thoughts, remembering what I was supposed to do.
"Got it!" I responded.
Yup, this was my life. The life of Isabella Barbossa.
Oh yeah that's right, I'm not a Barbossa anymore, I'm just plain old Isabella Smith. Isn't life just great?
I stood by Will, admiring his newest piece of art. It was a sword, crafted especially for Commodore Norrington's ceremony.
"It's a shame we have to give it away." I sighed.
Will smiled and chuckled at my behavior before putting the sword carefully in its new case.
"Would you like to help me deliver it to Governor Swann's home?" Will asked.
I stared back at Mr. Brown, the owner of the blacksmith shop, and rolled my eyes at his disgusting form. As usual, he was drunk off his ass again and sleeping the day away.
How charming he is...
"I've got nothing better to do." I cracked a small smile.
And so Will and I left together for the Swann residence, ready to deliver the beautiful sword I longed to use.
"Are you sure you don't have a decoy?" I asked again.
"No I don't." Will repeated.
Will knocked on the front door, immediately a butler came to the entrance, allowing us inside the Swann's home. I stared at Will knowingly, having that feeling that the reason he was so eager to deliver the sword was so that he could see Elizabeth, the governor's daughter. It took several minutes until Governor Swann arrived, looking happy to see us.
"Here you go sir. The special sword for the Commodore's ceremony" Will spoke up.
Will did one trick with the sword before holding the sword out to Governor Swann for him to take.
"Ah Isabella it's so good to see you again and thank you Will. Both of you never disappoint me." Governor Swann complimented.
"Yes, thank you, sir." I smiled politely.
If there's one thing I can say about the Swann's, it's that they're always warm and kind to others.
It was then that Elizabeth decided to show up, looking astonishing as always. I glanced over at Will, noticing how the look on Will's face practically spelled out, "I'm in love with you".
But as always, society stinks and true love can never win.
"Oh Will, Isabella. It's so good to see you two. You know, Will, I had a dream about you last night." Elizabeth smiled.
Whoa...what? A dream about Will? What kind of dream?
Governor Swann and Will exchanged glances awkwardly before turning their attention back to Elizabeth.
"Of the day we met. Don't you remember?" Elizabeth added.
"Oh yes how could I forget, Miss Swann?" Will chuckled.
"Will, how many times must I tell you to call me Elizabeth?" Elizabeth gave him a warm smile.
"About once more, Miss Swann." Will responded.
Governor Swann seemed pleased by Will's answer and clapped a hand on his shoulder before going to the front door.
"See at least the boy has some propriety...come now Elizabeth we must be going."
Elizabeth sighed before following her father out of her home, but not before pausing to look at Will in disappointment.
"Goodbye Mr. Turner..." Elizabeth said coldly.
With that, Elizabeth got into a carriage with her father, the both of them leaving shortly after.
"Goodbye...Elizabeth." Will mumbled softly.
"Will, I don't understand why you don't just grow a spine and tell her how you feel. It's obvious that you're both attracted to one another." I rolled my eyes.
"You know I can't." Will sighed.
"And why not?" I folded my arms.
Will let out another sigh before walking away from the Swann residence, leaving me behind.
"I'm going to go run some errands. Keep an eye on the shop until I return." Will told me.
Yeah, nice talk, Will...
How did I end up watching over this stupid drunk again?
I sighed as I cleaned around the blacksmith shop, waiting for Will to return, so that I could call it a day and go home. I kicked at Mr. Brown's leg again, hoping to somehow wake him up.
But nothing...
I went over to gather up some swords that had fallen onto the floor, and put them away in their place before I got out a broom and proceeded to clean up Will's mess.
Could this day be anymore boring?
My eyes widened when a pair of arms suddenly wrapped around my body, pulling me against a much more firm body.
I just had to say it, didn't I? Nevermind! I can handle boring!
Before I could speak up, the man's lips were gently pressed against my ear.
"Hush now, luv. I just need to get these shackles off of me...I'll be out of here in a few minutes, so sit your pretty arse down and don't say a word...savvy?"
Wait a minute...the man's voice...could it be? No...no way in hell.
He untangled his arms from my body, turning me around as he led me over to sit on a bench nearby.
Holy seabiscuits, it's Jack Sparrow!
"Oh great...this is just what I need. A pirate threatening me." I rolled my eyes.
"I haven't threatened yah, love. Not yet." Jack smirked.
Wow, he doesn't even recognize me. Wait...why am I so surprised?
Jack pressed his lips to my forehead and proceeded to put his hat down as he tried to figure a way out of the shackles he had bound to his wrists. I felt my forehead tingle and tried to ignore the butterflies in my stomach as I thought of a way to escape.
Rule number one: Don't get into a fight with Jack Sparrow. He's not all show and tell. This man can really kick some arse. But then again, so can I.
I snapped out of my thoughts, watching as Jack burned the donkey to make one of our machines run. Jack reached up, waiting for his shackles to break finally.
Well, I guess now's a good time to make a move.
I darted up from my spot quickly, grabbing a sword and holding it up to Jack's face.
"Now how about you sit your arse down before I kick it, you scraggly pirate?" I threatened.
Jack stared at me with surprise before letting out a laugh, moving closer as he grabbed his own sword and put it against mine, ready to battle it out with me.
"Now it's not wise to be crossing blades with a pirate, mate. Especially if it's a little bonny lass..." Jack smiled smugly.
Yeah, but you weren't raised by Hector Barbossa were you? I guess all of those lessons meant something after all.
"Oh believe me I know how to fight. So don't you worry about me, I learned from the absolute best." I smirked.
For a brief second, Jack looked at me in confusion, before eyeing my body.
"Have we met before in Tortuga, luv?" Jack asked suggestively.
"I wouldn't say Tortuga exactly. But I'm not gonna lie. We have met before. Not that it really matters." I glared at him.
With that being said, I tripped Jack with a swing of my legs below. I stare at him with awe as Jack immediately got up and jumped into the fight. For the past few minutes, I kept dodging nearly all of Jack's attacks, remembering his methods of fighting like the back of my hand. I smirked as I could see how frustrated Jack was getting, knowing that I was just toying with him at this point.
He still hasn't changed.
Finally, I made a move and hit him with a final blow, kicking him in the stomach and sending him several feet away from me. Jack hunched over before moving up into a fighting stance. It was rare, but I finally saw what Jack Sparrow looked like when he was furious.
"How the hell does a pretty lass like you beat me, eh? I'm Captain Jack Sparrow! Come on, luv. Where did you learn to spar like that?" Jack glared at me.
By now, I was extremely amused, knowing that I had the upper hand at the moment.
"Well, maybe I'm just observant. Maybe I just know your fighting style, Jackie boy." I winked at him.
Jack's eyes widened with surprise as he stared at me, probably remembering something from his past.
Shit...did I give myself away?
Jack inched closer towards me slowly, ready to strike. I stood defensively, ready to strike at Jack with my sword as well.
"Only two people have called me Jackie boy. My father...and—"
Jack was interrupted when he heard footsteps coming our way. I glanced over at the door, distracted for a brief second when I realized that Will was probably returning from his errands. Jack, using this opportunity, grabbed my wrists, holding them together as he put his other hand over my mouth while forcing me to hide with him. I struggled against Jack's hold, growing protective of Will as he walked into the shop.
"Ah, right where I left you..." Will said referring to the sleeping Mr. Brown.
I could hear Will shuffling around, probably searching for where I was.
I have to save him!
Will paused as he leaned closer, finding a hammer that Jack had left on an iron.
"Not where I left you..." Will noticed.
Will glances over and notices at a hat, wondering where it had come from. As he reached down to touch the hat, Jack immediately perked up, unable to hide any longer, and went over to stop Will from touching his precious hat, grabbing my sword from the floor where I had dropped it and putting it over Will's hand to stop him.
While also releasing me...huge mistake on your part, Sparrow.
"You're the one they're after….the pirate!" Will spat out.
I grabbed another sword and stormed over, poking the sword into Jack's back as a warning to back away from Will.
"Step away from the boy, Jack Sparrow!" I shouted.
Jack perks up in alarm and slowly puts down the sword as raises his hands up in surrender. Jack turns around slowly before smirking at me. Before I realized what had happened, Jack moved fast, taking my sword from me as he held me against him, the sword now pressed against my neck.
I had to admit I did not see that coming.
"Nice try. I mean, it's the effort that counts, luv." Jack joked.
"LET HER GO!" Will snapped.
Jack stared back at Will before placing a kiss on my cheek, taunting him as he did so.
"Are you forgetting that I'm the one with a hostage, boy? It's not wise to cross blades with a pirate anyhow, yah welp." Jack teased.
"You threatened Miss Swan! And now you're threatening Miss Smith!" Will yelled angrily.
"Only a little…" Jack said smirking.
And that's when everything went to hell...
Before I know it Jack pushes me away and begins to fight with Will. The two were a pretty good match if I thought about it. Will didn't allow me to jump into the fight because he wanted to protect me and kill this pirate himself.
And also threatening Elizabeth was just icing on the cake really.
As the fight progressed, Will eventually messed up as Jack used some dirt and threw it into Will's face to blind him. Jack held a pistol to Will's face as he quickly tried to wipe the dirt away, now coming to the realization that he had lost this battle.
"…You cheated…" Will mumbled childishly.
Jack said one word, as if it explained everything, including his fighting style.
"Pirate…now move!" Jack spoke up.
Soon there was pounding on the door, all of growing nervous when we realized that the Imperials were trying to get in. Will used this to his advantage and blocked Jack's path, not allowing him to leave.
"Move!" Jack demanded.
"I can't just let you escape!" Will said with determination.
Jack cocked his pistol, growing angry as he aimed at Will's face. I slowly moved from behind Jack, grabbing a rum bottle from the ground as I got ready to save Will.
"This shot isn't meant for you…" Jack grumbled.
I finally smashed the bottle onto Jack's head, watching as he fell flat on his face and became unconscious. Will sighed in relief as I glanced over at Mr. Brown, realizing that he had finally woken up. As the Imperial's finally got into the shop, I handed over the broken bottle to a dumbfounded Mr. Brown. Norrington inspected the scene, approaching Mr. Brown when he noticed Jack Sparrow on the floor.
"Good job Mr. Brown, you just stopped a fugitive from getting away." Norrington said.
"I was just doing my civic duty sir." Mr. Brown said.
I rolled my eyes at that comment.
Civic duty my ass.
"Well this is the day I'll remember as the day Captain Jack Sparrow almost escaped." Norrington mocked Jack.
Later that evening, Will spent the night with me, making sure if I was alright and not wanting me to be alone tonight. I tried telling him that this wasn't the first time I had been in a fight with a pirate, but it just wouldn't come out. To Will, I was like the younger sister he never had. Will thought of me as this sweet and innocent lass who could never truly hurt anyone, or protect herself. Will was like the brother I always wanted, so for awhile, I let Will believe that I couldn't fight until I 'asked him' to give me some fighting lessons. As far as Will knew, I just learned quickly.
I just longed to tell him who I truly was. He deserved that much.
"I'm just glad that pirate didn't do anything to you." Will sighed in relief.
"Will, I do know how to sword fight." I told him.
"Yeah, but only because I taught you a few moves." Will teased.
"William...if I tell you something...something about my past, would you promise not to get mad?" I mumbled softly.
Will straightened up, curious as to what I had to say. Will nodded, staring at me for what seemed like hours before I finally spoke up again.
"I'm not who you think I am. I...I used to be a pir- -"
I got cut off when we both heard a loud crash. As we got up to look out of the window, we saw Port Royal in complete chaos. Pirates were everywhere, looting everything and killing everyone in sight. When I noticed the familiar ship in the distance, my eyes widened in surprise as I feared the worst.
It's the Black Pearl...
Will looked at me before getting up and grabbing a weapon, prepared to join the fight and help out as many people as he could.
"We'll talk about this later." Will told me.
I nodded before coming to the realization that Elizabeth was in possible danger.
"I'm going over to the Swann's. I'll help get Elizabeth to safety." I told him.
Will nodded in agreement and finally, we went our separate ways.
My suspicions were confirmed when I saw that pirates were attacking Governor Swann's home. I unsheathe my sword and run throughout the mansion, searching for Elizabeth quickly. I spot Elizabeth after a few minutes, being cornered by two pirates. I got a good look at them and assessed the situation before making myself known.
Wait a second...is that Pintel and Ragetti?
I jumped onto a table as I ran over and landed in front of Elizabeth.
"Back off, boys. If you wanted to take her on a date, all you had to do was ask." I joked.
Pintel and Ragetti stared at me in confusion before they noticed I was carrying a sword. After I got into a fighting stance, they grew defensive, ready to attack me at any time.
"If you know what's good for you, lass...I would suggest you back away from the girl." Pintel warned me.
I shrugged before charging forward and knocking the sword out of Pintel's hand. Pintel smiled nervously as I held my sword up to his neck.
"You were saying?" I raised an eyebrow.
Ragetti was the next one to strike, and soon, the both of us were battling it out as well.
"Isabella? What are you doing here?" Elizabeth asked.
"Well considering you're the Governor's daughter, I thought I'd lend you a hand." I replied.
"Where's Will?" She looked worried.
"Out taking care of business, saving other people from the crew of the Black Pearl."
"How the hell do you know who's crew we're from?" Pintel grumbled.
"I'm sorry, did you not notice the black sails? It's not hard to narrow it down, yah scallywags." I rolled my eyes.
I swiped hard at Pintel's feet and made him fall backwards before I stabbed Ragetti in the chest. I stared at Ragetti with wide eyes when I saw how my attack didn't have any effect on him. He pulled out my sword, smirking at my reaction.
Oh sweet Davvy Jones, I forgot that they're cursed.
"Oh yeah...the curse." I mumbled.
I felt something hit the back of my head. In seconds, I was knocked unconscious.
The following morning, I woke up in my bed and found Will dabbing a wash cloth on my forehead. I perked up and looked at him worriedly, wondering what the hell had happened. And then it suddenly all came back to me.
The Black Pearl...cursed pirates...Elizabeth.
"Oh good you're awake...I was so worried..." Will spoke up.
"Will, where's Elizabeth? Did you find her?" I asked worriedly.
Will looked upset at the mention of Elizabeth and averted his gaze from mine.
"Elizabeth...was taken by pirates...I'm so sorry Isabella."
"And you're sitting here taking care of me when we could be out saving her?! Come on!"
I grabbed Will's hand, storming outside and searching for the Imperial's. I took a second to realize how badly Port Royal was attacked last night. Knowing that my father was up to no good, we would have to move quickly. I just couldn't figure out why they would attack Port Royal.
Why take Elizabeth?
"They've taken her. They've taken Elizabeth!" William cried.
"Mr. Murtogg, remove these two." Norrington glared at us.
"You're kidding! Elizabeth is in danger and you're not even making a move yet! What the bloody hell is up your arse?" I yelled furiously.
"We have to hunt them down. W- -we must save her!" Will added.
"And where do you propose we start? If you have any information concerning my daughter, please share it!" Governor Swann yelled.
Murtogg and Mallory shared a glance before they spoke up.
"That Jack Sparrow. He talked about the Black Pearl." Murtogg said.
"Mentioned it, is more what he did." Mallory added.
Will perked up, thinking of an idea.
"Ask him where it is! Make a deal with him. He could lead us to it!" Will suggested.
"No, the pirates who invaded this fort left Sparrow locked in his cell. Ergo, they are not his allies. Governor, we will establish their most likely course?" Norrington turned over to Governor Swann.
I grab Will's axe from his hand, slamming it down onto the table as I grew impatient.
"That's not good enough!" I snapped.
Governor Swann as well as Norrington stared at me in surprise, probably not used to having a woman speaking up like this.
"Elizabeth is in grave danger, especially if the crew of the Black Pearl want her. I know their type, they would not have taken her if they didn't need her for something!" I blurted out.
Norrington stared at me with curiosity, while also heeding my warning.
"Miss Smith and Mr. Turner, you are not military men, you are not sailors. You are blacksmiths and this is not the moment for rash actions." Norrington finally said.
Norrington then pulled Will to the side.
"Do not make the mistake of thinking you are the only man here who cares for Elizabeth." Norrington grew serious.
I turned to walk away, knowing there was only one man who could help us.
Jack Sparrow.
"How come you know so much about the Black Pearl?" Will questioned me.
I sighed as I stopped Will from going any further.
"Remember how I told you that I'm not what you think I am?" I asked.
Will nodded as he grew tense, not liking where this was going.
"Well...before I came to Port Royal...I used to be apart of the crew...for the Black Pearl." I confessed.
"So all of things you told me. They were lies?" Will glared at me.
"Not everything was a lie. I just...I couldn't exactly tell you that I used to be a pirate, right? Being a pirate gets you killed. I just wanted to start a new life." I sighed. "You have to understand, Will. I never meant to hurt you. I'm not who I used to be..."
Will fell silent before he continued down to the dungeons, pulling me along with him. I noticed how there was an odd shaped bone sticking out of the lock to the cell Jack was inside.
He must have been trying to escape, but failed miserably.
"You! Sparrow!" Will yelled.
"Aye?" Jack responded whipping his head up.
"You know of the Black Pearl?" Will asked.
"….I've heard of it…" Jack lied.
You stink at lying, Jackie boy.
"Where does it make berth?" Will grew anxious.
"Where does it make berth? Have you not heard the stories? Captain Barbossa and his crew of miscreants sail from the dreaded Isla De Muerta. It's an island that cannot be found except by those—"
"Who already know where it is?" I finished.
Will and Jack stared at me in confusion, Will looked more betrayed as Jack looked more amused with me. I glanced at Will with guilt evident on expression before turning my attention to Jack again.
"Ah, the pretty lass that knocked me out with a rum bottle…it's a pleasure to see you again, luv." Jack said winking at me.
"The ships real enough, therefore, its anchorage must be a real place. Where is it?" Will cut in.
"Why ask me?" Jack raised an eyebrow.
"Stop being a smart ass, Jackie and just tell the man what he wants to know." I glared at him.
I would tell Will myself about Isla De Muerta, but it had been so long ago. I wasn't even so sure about where it was.
"Oh so you want to become pirates yourselves is that it?" Jack asked us.
"No! We don't!" Will reached for my hand, pulling me towards him.
I grew surprised at Will's actions, but didn't dare question him, knowing he was probably already angry enough at me as it was. After a few seconds, Will deflated, looking defeated as he confessed to Jack.
"They took Miss Swann" Will sighed.
"Oh! So it is that you've found a girl! Well, you'll have to win fair lady's heart alone, mate. I see no profit in it for me." Jack said.
Jack lied back on the ground, inspecting his fingernails as he tried look uninterested in what he had to say.
But I knew what would catch his attention.
"We can get you out of here." I told him.
"And how's that, luv? The keys run off." Jack replied.
Will nodded, knowing what I was trying to do and played along with me.
"We helped build these cells. These are half pin-barrel hinges. With the right leverage proper application of strength….the door should lift free." Will explained.
Jack sat up as he stared at us with suspicion.
"What are your names?" Jack asked curiously.
"Will Turner" Will said.
"Isabella…Smith…" I said carefully.
Jack eyed me for several seconds before his attention was back on William again.
"That will be short for William, I imagine. Good, strong name. No doubt, named after your father, eh?" Jack grinned.
"Yes." Will replied.
"Uh huh…Well, Mr. Turner, I've changed me mind!" Jack clapped his hands together. "If you get me out of here, I swear on the pain of death that I shall take you to the Black Pearl and your bonny lass. Do we have an accord?" Jack offered.
Will inspected Jack's hand before he quickly shook it in agreement.
"Yes." Will answered.
"Alright, good, now get me out!" Jack grew anxious.
Will and I grabbed a bench and then proceeded to break Jack out of his cell. After the cell door lifted up and fell to the floor, Jack came out quickly, eager to get started on this new adventure. As Will ran up the stairs, Jack grabbed my hand, pulling me back with him. We stared into each other's eyes for what seemed like minutes, before Jack smirked and kissed my hand.
"I guess we'll have to get moving, eh, Miss Smith?" Jack winked at me.
"I suppose we'll have to." I nodded.
I ignored the fluttering sensation in my belly and ran up the stairs, eager to save Elizabeth from my father.
So what do you guys think? Did you like it? I really thought this turned out well! I love rewriting stories sometimes! It's fun!
