Sighs

This wasn't the first time Shinobu had heard it. At first, he passed it off as a natural sound of sleeping. But "it" turned into "them" and Shinobu became increasingly more worried. Miyagi was sighing in his sleep. Not little puffs of air, but long, winded sighs. Sighs that broke Shinobu's heart. And those were just the ones that he heard. He had to fix this.

He tried asking Miyagi what was wrong every morning after he spent the night, explaining that he heard him sighing, but the reply was always "What are you talking about? Nothing's wrong!" followed by a strained laugh. But Shinobu remained vigilant; his vigilance had worked at the beginning of their relationship and it was going to work now. And finally, one day, he broke through.

"All right, Shinobu-chin. You got me," Miyagi confessed, smiling wearily. He sat down slowly, motioning for Shinobu to sit down across from him. "Recently I've been having dreams. About her."

"What? Who? Who's been in your dreams? A woman?" Shinobu felt his face become hot with anger at the mention of somebody else. "Yeah," replied Miyagi. He watched Shinobu's glare intensify briefly before he finished with "Sensei." He stared at Shinobu, gauging his reaction.

Shinobu was quiet for a few seconds. Sensei. He definitely hadn't forgotten about her, she who was such an important part of Miyagi's life, but he had to admit that she didn't cross his mind very often. After absorbing the information Miyagi had given him, he suddenly jerked his head up, startling Miyagi. "Don't break your neck, Shinobu-chin," Miyagi breathed, taking a long drag from his cigarette.

"I'll make you happy," he declared. Miyagi quirked an eyebrow. "I'll love you. You don't have to worry about the past." Miyagi continued to stare, but his expression softened. "I can do it. I'll work harder. It's fate," Shinobu promised.

The corners of Miyagi's mouth twitched. He got up from his sitting position and moved towards Shinobu. A big hand ran it's fingers through Shinobu's tresses. Shinobu looked up, Miyagi's hand still in the way of his sight. "Thanks, kid. It means a lot. But they were just dreams. Nothing more. You don't have anything to worry about. You're doing just fine," Miyagi reassured him. Miyagi paused, then grinned widely before adding "Especially in bed!"

Shinobu blushed furiously. "Miyagi! You never take anything seriously!" he yelled. "Ah, but Shinobu-chin, I'm just being honest with you like you were being honest with me," Miyagi countered, now sauntering to the bedroom. He stopped mid-step, turned around, and glanced at Shinobu, who was still blushing, standing in the same position. "C'mon, Shinobu-chin. I thought you said that you wanted to work hard? Why don't you prove it?" Miyagi smirked. Shinobu glowered briefly before uttering "Crazy old man" and joining him on his path to the bedroom.
