KAREN
How could she breathe with him fighting for every breath?
How could she eat with him unwilling to take a single bite?
How could she sleep with him awake, staring at that wretched white ceiling?
She had destroyed him, just like she destroyed Bex.
Waves of self-loathing crashed over any coherent thoughts that may have entered her mind.
It was her fault.
It was her fault that her baby was lying in a hospital bed, covered with tubes and wires.
It was her fault that a peice of machinery was forcing life into his limp, helpless body.
It was her fault that he had stopped eating.
Her fault that he had thrown up anything that did pass through his dry, grey lips.
It was her fault that her husband was having an affair.
Her fault that her youngest daughter hated her.
Her fault that her eldest had gone missing..perhaps dead.
Karen Fisher was a strong woman, undoubtedly, but she was not bullet proof.. a fact which she embraced and resented in equal measure.
Ah yes, being human was by far her greatest asset..and her largest flaw.
