Luna smiled to herself as she skipped through the large grounds of Hogwarts, several hand-picked flowers held carefully in one delicate hand.
She crouched down in front of a single dandelion, carefully inspecting the plant.
She gently pressed her fingernails into the base of the stem, cutting the plant and placing it with the assortment of daisies and buttercups and those little pink flowers she'd forgotten the name of.
Once she'd deemed her home-made bouquet large enough she removed her necklace and carefully tied the plants together with the blue string.
She'd known where he'd be, but she'd had to wait several hours before going so that she knew he'd get there before her.
By the time she pushed open the door to the first floor girls' bathroom he was already there, sitting on the floor with his back against the wall and his head in his hands. Myrtle was there, too; attempting to comfort him, for all the good it was doing.
"It'll... It'll be alright."
"No! It won't," he moaned into his palms, voice coated with tears.
"Hello," Luna cheerfully announced her presence, causing both ghost and boy to look up in slight shock.
Draco hurriedly wiped away his tears with the heel of his hands, blinking back more.
"What do you want," he snapped, pushing himself up off the floor.
"Here," she held out the flowers uncomfortably close to his face. He took them probably more out of reflex than any actual desire for them.
"These are weeds," he managed a haughty tone despite his blotchy face and red-rimmed eyes.
"They're flowers," she corrected. "They were just growing where people didn't want them."
"And what's this," he ignored her, instead flicking the single Butterbeer cork hanging from the make-shift ribbon.
"It'll keep away the Nargles," she replied simply.
"That's ridiculous," he informed her, scorn lacing his voice.
She left before he could give the gift back.
He threw the flowers out the next day; they'd already been wilting when she'd given them to him and a night on his bedside table had done them no good. He kept the necklace, though; wearing it looped four times around his wrist, hidden under his robes.
