Authors Note: Alright, so this is my first fanfic in...oh, maybe 10 years? And it's my first Doctor Who fanfic. All of the events in seasons 1-4 happened, right up until the regeneration, because David Tennant will always be my Doctor. (Not that Matt Smith isn't great - am I the only one making Dalek cupcakes for a "Let's Kill Hitler" viewing party tonight?)

Disclaimer: I am a grad student who just overdrew my bank account yesterday. Clearly I don't own anything. Just a little harmless fun.

"DUCK!" Annie Jameson had been walking to the school where she taught when a man shouted behind her. She turned around and saw a huge black figure hurtling through the air straight for her. The next thing she knew, Annie was been tackled to the ground by a tall, thin man. Very thin. Uncommonly thin. And yet still strong as he shoved her down on the ground. As soon as the flying thing had passed over their heads, the man climbed off of her and scrambled to his feet, taking off after whatever it was. Annie, always curious, chased after them, wanting to know just what that thing was. Eventually the thing got away from the strange man and he gave up running, doubled over as he tried to catch his breath. Annie stopped next to him, gasping for air as well.

"Why in the hell did you run after that thing?" the man shouted.

"Why the hell did I? Why the hell did you? What was that thing?"

"That thing was an xxxxxx! Very, very dangerous!"

"A what?"

"An xxxxxx!"

"What in the hell is that?" People stopped and stared at the couple standing in the road shouting at each other in the middle of the morning rush. The man turned to leave, but Annie grabbed his arm, forcing him to turn around and face her.

"Not so fast, don't think you can just tackle me in the street when a huge, black thing almost flies into me, yell some bogus name at me, and then leave without any explanation! Who are you?"

"I'm the Doctor," the man scowled at Annie.

"The Doctor? Doctor who?"

"Just...the Doctor. Listen, I really have to run and catch that xxxxxx before it gets away."

"I think it already did."

"Yeah, well...still, I have to try."

"Well you're taking me with you. I almost got clobbered by that thing. I deserve to find out what it really is."

"Alright...if you insist. But a few things first: follow my directions, be prepared for lots of running, and DON'T WANDER OFF. It's dangerous, and if you go wandering off on your own, you're just asking for trouble. Do ya'hear?"

Annie nodded. Admittedly, she had full expected the man to leave her behind. Now she was really going to have to go along on his search. He seemed safe enough. A bit mad, but still safe.

"Sorry, I didn't catch your name," the Doctor interrupted her thoughts.

"Annie Jameson."

"Pleased to meet you, Annie Jameson. Allons-y! Off we go!"
