Always Here

Cruz starred at the two gray stony headstones. His tiny hand was held by his older sister, who looked at them two. With big curious wide eyes, he looked at his sister, tilting his head a little.

"Nee-san, why did we put mommy and daddy in the ground?" he asked. He felt Nee-san's hand tighten around his as she hid her face with her bangs. Her body started to shake, confusing the little toddler even more. His eyebrows ceased in worry as he tightened his own little hand around hers, telling her in his own way that he was there for her.

"Mommy and daddy are gone Cruz." her voice shook and cracked. Small droplets of tears fell from her face and onto the soft ground. Cruz looked down at the ground, not fully understanding what Nee-san was saying. His eye brows furrowed more as he concentrated on his two small feet. "It's okay Cruz, cause I'm-"

"Nee-san, don't cry." he told her as he hugged her tight, burring his face into her as he inhaled her sweet scent with a soft smile. He looked up at her shocked face, his smile growing. "Where ever mommy and daddy are, they're happy, nee?" he asked her, hugging her tighter, telling her that he wasn't going anywhere. He buried his face back into her, eyes closing as he relished the moment. "I'll always be here, forever and ever! I'll protect you from every bad guy that comes our way! You'll be safe as long as I'm here Nee-san!" Cruz told her. He felt her arms go around him, hugging him back as she buried her head into his hair.

"I know you will Cruz. You're my hero." Nee-san said with a small laugh. She rested her chin on his head as she looked at the sunset behind their parent's graves. "And I'll always be here for you." she whispered.
