Written for The Dinner Table Challenge Round 3:

Prompt: a laptop/computer

Character: Dennis Creevey

Written for the Greek Mythology Mega Prompt:

Athena – Goddess of intelligence, skill, and peace. She was depicted as crowned with a crested helm. Poets describe her as having bright, keen eyes. She is commonly accompanied by an owl. Write about an intelligent muggle-born that isn't Hermione Granger.

After spending a year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry it was weird to return to the Muggle World and a house without magic. Dennis Creevey sighed as he and his older brother Colin left the train platform and walked to the car with his parents. The school year had ended much too soon for both brothers, the Triwizard Tournament had made Hogwarts an even more exciting place than normal. Unfortunately the year ended on a sour note with Cedric Diggory dying at the end of the Third Task and at least according to Harry Potter and Professor Dumbledore Lord Voldemort coming back.

Dennis was staring out the back window of the car as his father drove them home. He was daydreaming as his mother asked his brother and him about the year. "Huh? Oh yeah it was great, Mum," Dennis nodded not really paying attention to the question.

"Did it not live up to your expectations?" his mother asked him turning around in her seat to face the boys.

"No, no it was really cool," Dennis shook his head smiling. "I just wasn't paying attention before. The Triwizard Tournament was so cool to watch and the classes... Merlin, Mum, the classes are unbelievable." He began to ramble on about all of his classes for the entire car ride home. It was no secret that Dennis was a bookworm, somewhere between a quarter and a half of his room was filled with books.

Dennis was still talking about his classes when they entered the house. "Okay, Dennis, I think that's enough now," his father responded shaking his head as he and Colin carried in the boys' trunks.

Later that evening Dennis was in his and Collins' room looking at his toys and books. The computer he had been so excited to receive as a gift last year now seemed boring and uninteresting so did a lot of his childhood toys and books. Sure when Collin received his letter three years ago and gotten his books from Diagon Alley magic seemed interesting and new but he had still been interested in his old books. He was still excited going to normal muggle school sure Hogwarts seemed interesting but he doubted he would have the chance to go there, his life up to that point had been fairly uninteresting then and he doubted it would change anytime soon. He was happy with his muggle life, he was the smartest in his class - a trait that hadn't really changed when he arrived at Hogwarts - and he had everything he needed well perhaps he could have lived with a bit more adventure. Now he had all of that a fun school full of adventure and fun, challenging classes with surprises around ever corner. He laid down on his bed and sighed not looking forward to a summer away from magic, as far as he was concerned September first could not come soon enough.
