I, The Hooded Menace, have finally completed a Scooby Doo ficlet! Which is slighty odd, as Scooby Doo was the first fanfiction I tried writing (seriously, it sucked). Read and review for a Scooby Snack!
Dislcaimer - If I owned Scooby Doo, Daphne and Fred would be even more cannon.
Sweet Sacrifice
It was common knowledge that Daphne Blake was danger prone. If there was a trap, she'd be the one to fall into it. If there was a maze, she'd be the one that would get separated from the rest and get completely, hopelessly lost. The monsters would automatically pick her as a kidnap victim, and she had been tied up in dark places more times than she would care to admit. Then, you might ask, why did she continue investigating mysteries, even though she was in a clear and present danger? It wasn't just because of a love of sleuthing, or an eye for the news, even thought she had both of these things. In reality, it boiled down to one word – Fred.
Daphne had adored Fred Jones for as long as they had known each other, which was quite a while, as they met as children. Even when she was a spoiled brat and he a delusional boy, she had loved him. As they grew up, her feelings matured. They spent even more time together, time that she treasured more than she'd ever treasure her massive fortune. She was with the gang more than she was at her mansion and all of its luxuries. Despite her rich upbringings, she knew that money was not that important, certainly not the key to her happiness. The mysteries were great excuses to be with him; if not them, Daphne would have made up some reason to be with him. She couldn't bear to be away from his side. Even in the creepiest dungeon, he made her feel safe. If a monster did capture her, she was not afraid; she knew he'd come for her. He had never let her down. He was the only person who she could always trust, no matter what, and she loved him for it.
But it wasn't just his dependability that Daphne loved him for. He was also a really sweet guy who was genuinely concerned about her and all the other members of the gang. He wasn't afraid of anything, even of looking like a fool if a plan failed or his hunch turned up to be grossly wrong. If he fell down, he'd get right up again. He was smart, talented, and a great leader. Not to mention incredibly buff and good-looking. She'd admit that she'd clung to him on more than one occasion when she wasn't really scared, just to be able to hold him. All in all, Daphne found it impossible not to love him.
And hopefully, soon he'd admit that he loved her too. There were hints, some subtle, that he felt the same way. He always made sure that he was with her in case of trouble, would often hold her arm, be the first one to get to her if she did get into trouble. She noticed it, and it made her heart sing.
It was for him that she risked everything, that she walked into dangerous situations even though she knew it would be her that would go through the most difficult parts. It was all for him, her sweet sacrifice. She never regretted it.
