How Daniel finds peace.

A/N: though I have a special place in my heart for a certain spacepirate/spacemonkey ship...I have left this one to the readers choice of companion.

He'd rolled over to his left side and slipped into a place he'd rarely been in eleven or so years. It wasn't exhaustion that put him into this deep sleep. The peace that wafted through him as he drifted off was real.
Head resting on his upper arm, elbow bent and forearm covering his eyes, Daniel never heard the beep of his cell phone, though it sat on the bedside table mere inches from his head.
The trill rose exponentially and may have reached his subconscious just before it stopped. Daniel sighed - more an annoyed moan – before slipping back into the abyss of peaceful sleep as a smile twitched his lips.
When the phone began again, he never heard it, not in the least. Not a sound disturbed him. He slept the sleep of the innocent.
A small snore escaped his parted lips and his body fully relaxed becoming a part of the mattress beneath him.
The warble began again, rising in volume. He didn't hear it.
She did! She popped up from behind him, hair wild and eyes narrowed towards the offensive, shrilling phone. Her gaze dropped to Daniel, who obviously remained unaware of the disturbance. Carefully as not to awaken him, she reached over his sleeping form. Her fingers were a fraction of an inch from the object when a very strong hand clinched her wrist.
Trapping the surprised squeak inside her mouth, her eyes grew wider as that hand of his pulled hers and gently placed it on his chest.
Then, unexpectedly, and without so much as moving his other arm from his eyes, or moving his body in any other way, Daniel picked up the phone and threw it across the room. "There. Sleep. Now."
With a sigh she snuggled down, her chest to his back, arm across his side, hand resting on his heart.
His little snore returned. She kissed his back and drifted off to sleep.
