The Clearing Between the Trees

"Two victors can make it out" After Peeta eats some nightlock berries, Katniss only wishes to survive the games with Rue. But after mysterious things happen around Peeta's death, Katniss starts to wonder if she really knows what happened. But does she want to know?

"Peeta..." my voice trails off as a single tear runs down my face. His body lays limp in my arms.

"Peeta!" I yell. Anger sweeps over me and I ripp some of the daisies out of the ground. Tears start pouring down my face. I fall backwards into the grass. Soon the game makers will take his body out of the arena. As I slowly sit up, my eyes drift down to Peeta's hands. They are stained with the juice of the nightlock berries.

I hear a rustle in the trees and turn around, grabbing my bow, and positioning it so I'm ready to shoot it. The figure emerges from the trees. I let out a relived breath when I see Rue's small frame.

"Katniss," she whispers. She gestures questionably to Peeta's body.

"He's dead," I say and wipe a final tear from my face. "Come on, let's go," I say.

"And leave him?" she asks.

As much as don't want to leave Peeta, I know I must. I can't obsess over him like this. I must go on and win the games. The game makers recently announced that two victors can come out. I was caught between Peeta and Rue. Now I suppose I will have to make it out with Rue.

"The game makers will soon transport his body. We might as well leave." I say. Rue slowly nods her head, and then walks over to me and gently holds my hand and sits down next to me.

"It's going to be okay," she whispers to me. I squeeze her hand. I pick up my backpack, swing it around my shoulder and put my bow and arrow away. Rue and I stand up, and I realize that it's sundown.

"Let's find a place to sleep." I tell Rue. After about thirty minutes we find a far off clearing where there is a bed of grass hidden between a cluster of trees. We set up camp and Rue quickly falls asleep. As much as I wish to sleep I can't because the fact the Peeta's gone. I decide to go into the forest and hunt for meat. I take my bow and arrow with me and trek into the darkness.

First chapter ever! So I'm new to . My friend cocopup told me to get a , this is just the prologue, that's why it's so short. I don't think I'll get many reviews. If I don't get reviews, I won't be posting another chapter because I don't want to be posting things if no one will read them. So once I get one (good) review that's not cocopup I will update.
