Harry was never this scared in his life. He had faced more dangers in his life than most wizards in living memory, fought dragons, dementors, Death Eaters and defeated the Darkest Wizard of all time without a second thought, and this was the thing that was making his hands shake in nervousness.
Although, these past years were like a relief after his last few years of school. Auror-training was tough, of course it had to be, for it honed the skills of the elite few among the wizarding world, but it didn't come with the huge responsibility or implications that their searching for Horcruxes had been. In a way it had been easy for Harry. For Ron, not so much. Harry smiled as he remembered Ron's last test in Concealment. But even that memory did nothing to calm his nerves.
"You're a Gryffindor," he reminded himself. Of course his mind understood that but apparently his palms didn't. Still sweating like anything. He hurriedly wiped it on the napkin.
"Hey Harry!"
He looked towards the direction of that voice and automatically smiled at finding Ginny at the door. Kreacher was ushering her in and she came to sit with Harry at the table.
"You're early!" He exclaimed.
"Yes, well, I'd rather be with you than Ron at the moment," she replied, settling herself.
"Glad to hear that," Harry said with a wink.
"Wow, you have gone rather overboard tonight," she said, eyeing the food and flowers.
"Its kinda special. It was my Mum and Dad's anniversary today."
She smiled warmly at him, and at that moment, seeing her smile so beautifully up at him, his Gryffindor traits kicked in and he plucked up the courage.
"Its more than that though. Ginny, being with you these years was the best part of my life. Even on the verge of death, you held me in place. You... you're everything I always wanted, and I cannot imagine my life without you... "
He got down on his knees then. Sucking in a deep breath, he said:
"Marry me, Ginny?"
And everything seemed to stop. His own heart was almost still. In future he would recall that moment as the one where he could not see or hear anything other than the beautiful, wonderful, amazing girl standing in front of him, tears in her eyes and a glorious smile on her face.
"Yes, Harry. Of course."
