The Curse of Light

Summary: Who knew light could be so dark?

Another drabble based on a list of themes by BiteMeTechie. Here's theme number 3: Light.

Irony.

Contemptuous irony.

When one closes their eyes they're met with darkness.

When he closed his eyes all he saw was light.

Bright and despised and always there.

He wished for the dark, the vast emptiness of endless dark, the default state, he knew, of the universe.

He was sick of the light, it hurt his eyes.

It hurt his soul.

But when he closed his eyes he saw light.

And it always came in different colours: a blinding white, a bright, shimmering blue, a dull red...

All representing the same thing.

His mistakes.

His mistakes and the lives that those mistakes cost.

And it seemed that his mistakes were always caused by light.

Light that he created or had tried to stop.

He tried so hard to stop the light...

It seemed that he had finally found his place.

A bringer of light...

And the darkness of death.

Wow... I must have been really stressed to write something so dark and depressing. And poor Rodney. He's my favourite character and just so easy to write ("there's not a lot of subtext with you..." - Katie Brown). And let's face it, he's made to be whumped... no offense. Well, anyways, this story is one of three, so look for those as well!
