Here's a short little piece I wrote the other night. It's set during the MWPP era. Please R&R.

Disclaimer: Remus, Sirius, James, and Peter all belong to J.K. Rowling.

Remus Lupin lay awake one night, unable to sleep. It was his final year at Hogwarts, and he wondered what he and his friends, Sirius, James, and Peter would be doing once they were out on their own. Would he be able to keep in touch with them? Or would they distance themselves from him? They were, after all, his best friends. The friends who had accepted him for what he was -- a werewolf. They even risked getting expelled, becoming animagi to help him. Remus sighed, he couldn't possibly stand the thought of losing his friends.

"You awake there, Moony?" asked a voice to his right. Sirius must have heard him sigh and knew he was awake.

"Yeah. What about you, Prongs?"

"I'm awake too," James said softly. "But stay quiet, Peter's still asleep."

Remus sat up in his four-poster bed, "Why are you two up?"

"Couldn't sleep," came James reply. He was also sitting up, but his glasses were still on the stand beside him.

Sirius remained flat in his bed, "Could be asking the same to you, Moony."

"Ah, well . . . I was thinking."

"About what?"

Remus hesitated before finally saying, "Stuff."

"Come on, Remus. We know when you're lying," said James. "What were you really thinking about?"

"I was thinking about -- about what's going to become of us after this year. What's going to become of the Marauders?"

Neither James nor Sirius spoke. Remus was worried that they thought he was nuts or something.

"Yeah, I know, silly question. Sorry to -- " he was interrupted by Sirius.

"Actually, that's a good question. I've never really thought about it," he sat up and looked over to Remus. "Guess I thought nothing could ever keep us apart."

"Sirius is right, we're like brothers, nothing could ever cause us to break that bond. We've been through a lot together -- there's no way it's all going to end after we're out of school."

Remus realized that both Sirius and James were right, but for some reason, he couldn't convince himself that they would always be friends.

"You guys are right." Remus said. "I guess I was just scared that I'd be left all alone."

Sirius chuckled, "Awww, Moony, we'd never abandon you." James nodded in agreement.

"Thanks guys. I guess I just needed to get that off my chest."

"No problem, Moony." James yawned. "Well, I don't know about you two, but I'm tired. Night Sirius. Night Remus." He was out like a light.

"Night James," they replied in unison.

Sirius then turned to Remus, "Listen, Remus, we'll always be there for you. It's like James said, we're all brothers and the bond between us is unbreakable," he sighed. "Just don't work yourself up over it, alright?"

"Alright. Goodnight, Padfoot."

"Goodnight, Moony."

Remus lay back down and fell into a comfortable, peaceful sleep, believing all that Sirius and James had said to be true -- that they would be friends forever.

Little did he know that it would all fall apart.

There you go. Let me know what you think.
