Darcy Cant Sway Elizabeth Bennet

Prologue

We finally got to meet Mr Bingley and company today at the ball. Jane really seemed to have done well – Mr Bingley danced with her twice, which he did with no-one else! If that does not show great partiality for Jane I do not know what would.

D – Difference noted

If only his friend, Mr Darcy, were so genial! I could not believe his rudeness to me at the party – surely he realised that I could hear all that passed between him and Mr Bingley! He really is such a different creature to myself and all my friends – so proud of himself and not even liking to dance.

C- Categorisation occurs

Well after all he is very rich – 10000 pounds a year. He is of a different class and it can be expected that he would behave strangely.

S – Stereotyping

People like him are always excessively proud – they are rich and therefore snobs

E – Evaluation made

Later…

Mr Darcy is just as proud, vain and disagreeable as any rich person can be! How could he behave so terribly towards Mr Wickham and my sister!

B – Behaviour

How could Mr Darcy dare to propose to me after everything he has done! There is absolutely no chance that I could ever accept! His demeanour during the proposal was also exactly what can be expected from such a horrible man!

Epilogue

Oh dear, it appears that I have been unfairly discriminating against poor Mr Darcy. I do think now that there is nobody better suited for me than he is! Next time he proposed I will definitely accept! Oh, and Jane is engaged to Mr Bingley!
