It's been years since the bitter day he left and she cried. There's been a war. So many deaths, too many broken engagements. So much grief. She still remembers the look on his face when she told him about the fateful visit of a certain diplomat. She remembers the kiss that the other one saw. The wrongness of it, for both of them.
She remembers all the pain she has caused for so many people.
So how is it possible that he is still standing here in front of her? How can he still want her after everything she has done? She doesn't deserve any of this. She definitely doesn't deserve him. And yet… he doesn't seem to care. He is completely prepared to take her back. What more could she ask of him?
"You must do it properly."
The smile on his face is one of utter joy. As he kneels, she can see in his face the desire he has to do this for her – to do anything for her.
He asks the question, and she doesn't even hesitate.
"Yes."
This kiss is the sweetest yet, speaking without words of all that has happened in the past and the promise of a brighter future. A future of forgiveness and love. One of better days and sparkling nights. One that they will spend together.
