Almost a drabble.

Observation was what Sherlock Holmes was known for.
Something he prided himself on doing extraordinarily well.
However, now standing in a cemetery Sherlock wanted to look away.
He found he could not.
He had avoided the cliche of being at one's own funeral. Something had drawn him here today.
Hidden a few feet from his own grave stone the consulting detective watched two of his closest friends grieve.
Something painful to watch.
As sad as Mrs. Hudson and John were at least they were safe.
That had been Sherlock's goal all along.
Protect those he loved.
Being apart from them was a necessary sacrifice.
One he would endure as long as they were safe.
