Title: Everything has a Price

Everything comes with a price. Some things cost more than others. Some things cost less. But everything – everything you want and need, everything you gain expectedly or unexpectedly – it all has a price. Natsuki's known this fact most of her life. Learning to climb trees had the price of a three point fracture in her right arm. Learning to read came with the price of a visit to the doctor's and a pair of glasses. Learning to drive a bike came with the price of once again injuring her right arm, actually breaking it this time and turning her formerly neat handwriting into an illegible scrawl.

Having the love of her father came at the price of her mother.

Falling in love for the first time came at the price of getting her heart broken.

And being with Shizuru... well that had its own price tag didn't it?

She loves Shizuru. She really really loves Shizuru. Shizuru has managed to become the most precious thing Natsuki has ever had. And the best part of it all is that Shizuru loves her back. How do you price something so priceless?

Everything has a price, but Natsuki believes she got away with this one thing.

A brand new bike destroyed beyond repair is nothing in comparison.

Twenty-eight stitches in five different places is nothing in comparison.

A hairline fracture in her already weak and disabled right arm is nothing in comparison.

Neither are two fractured ribs.

Or the ridiculously high hospital bill.

The only thing life took in exchange for Shizuru that Natsuki ever misses are her eyes. And she wishes she could have had them just a fraction of a second longer so the blurred image of chestnut and a white dress stored in her mind would be a little clearer. She wishes she had gotten to see just a little bit more of the woman she had nearly hit down.

And maybe life had gotten away with something. For Natsuki would never know the face of the woman she had come to love.

- End

A/N: Hmmm... I should be studying. But I feel like I've been neglecting Shiznat for a while now. I guess I just wanted to write this so that I'd warm up to the pairing again and finish at least one of the stories I have planned.

But I really should be studying so...
