The doorbell rang. I swiftly put my son down. Opening the door my husband, Peeta, leaned over the ledge.
"Katniss who is it?" He asked.
"I'm not sure." I replied, opening it only to see Gale.
If this was a few years earlier, I would've been overly excited. Since he killed Primrose, I sent him a death glare.
"Catnip, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to kill Prim." He said for the hundredth time. He's still using the nickname he gave me all those years ago in the woods. He didn't really kill Prim, but one of his bombs dropped over President's Snow house. Prim was among the many kids acting as a barricade during the war between the districts and the capitol.
I glance up at Peeta to see how well he's taking this. He's clenching the handrail, his eyes are clenched shut.
"Someone's not to happy to see me." Gale said in a witty tone, nodding up at Peeta.
"It's the tracker jack venom trying to alter his memory again." I replied in a defensive tone.
"Again?" He asked, obviously annoyed.
"Yes, the one President Snow gave him to alter his memories." I said, before realizing who I was talking too. Gale should've known why Peeta was clutching the handrails, he helped rescue him from the capital!
My daughter, Madge, ran over. I decided to name her Madge after my best friend. She was killed in the bombing of District 12. Peeta agreed, though he had no idea who Madge was. All he knew was that she was the Mayor's daughter. It was probably better that he didn't know, because of the tracker jack venom.
"Mommy who is it?" She said pushing a strand of her black hair from her bright blue eyes.
"No one Madge, go play with Finnick." I mumbled. We named our son Finnick after he was killed by the capital's mutations. Peeta had very little interaction with him, so it didn't remind him of the awful Hunger Games. Annie was pleased that we named our son Finnick. She'd been devastated when we told her that her husband was killed by the capitol mutations.
She nodded, and ran into the living room to play with Finnick. Gale looked at me with rage in his eyes. He'd expected me to introduce him to my children.
"What are you doing here Gale?" I asked him, clenching my jaw.
"To say I was sorry, and that I want a second chance.." Gale said, this sounded nothing like the boy who accused me of stealing from his traps all those years ago.
I swiftly closed the door, not even wanting to see the boy who left without saying goodbye.
I swiftly walked into the living room, and watched my two children play.
"Mommy? Can we go to the meadow?"
"Sure Madge" I said, kissing her on the forehead.
I walked to the meadow with Peeta, hand in hand. My two lovely children were following closely behind.
I looked around the meadow, grass had grown. Life had begun again. I watched silently as my two children danced in the meadow, taking it for granted. For all they now the meadow could been gone tomorrow. Another horrible thing could start, and we could end up with another Hunger Games.
