Sail

She is standing on the shore, waiting to get swept away.
She is standing on the shore, waiting for a better day.
In the distance she can see the play island, burning in the setting sun. Alive with laughter she can hear only in her head. That was all the past now.
"It begins with an S"
The waves sweep over her feet, and they are so cold. But she does not move. She thinks that if she continues to stare at that island, at that setting sun, the things in her head might be real again.
Those memories might just be alive again.
How could she have forgotten?
"Come on, I'll race you!"
"Aw no fair Riku, you cheated! He cheated, didn't he Kairi?"
"No I didn't, you little runt! Tell him I didn't Kairi, tell him!"
They used to race. They used to swim. They used to be so young.
Her hair brushes her shoulders and she is reminded of just how long has passed.
"Let's build a raft to sail away on! That way, we can leave this island! I'm so sick of it!"
"Yeah! And we can sail to different worlds and see so many cool sights! We can do whatever we want! We'll be free!"
"Yup, that's the plan. Are you in Sora?"
"Of course!"
"Kairi?"
Had she answered with a yes? She can no longer remember. The raft still sits, sails threadbare, waiting to be cast off. She is the only one now. She is the sole voyager. Is she still to go on with the plan?
The waves crash into her like steel, biting into her legs. Absently, she walks farther into the water, closer to the sunset, the island, the raft and the adventure.
Absently, her heart cries.
"How could you leave me behind?" she whispers. There is no answer.
"How could you—"
"It begins with an S"
"How could you Sora?"
She thinks she hears his laughter in the distance, but she can't be sure. All is lost in a dull roar as, tears falling, she dives into the sea to get rid of them.
She is the one left behind. She is the one without a sail.
She is the one who everyday gets swept away.
And she is the only one who with the cold waves floats back to shore.
All Kairi-centric, wow. I really don't like Kairi and yet I honored her with this. I guess you can't help but feel for the girl a little—she is all but forgotten in the second game, even if she is annoying.
