I sighed and tightened the tie of a black garbage bag. My room was a complete and hopeless mess. There were piles of clothes scattered all around my room. There were books and papers all over the place.
I've been terribly busy these past few weeks and have been paying little attention to the ridiculous condition of my small bedroom. Between graduation, family gatherings, and planning for the future, I've had no spare time whatsoever.
Yesterday was my high school graduation and Renee's birthday was last week. Her and her husband, Phil, had flown across the country to Forks to celebrate. My graduation conveniently taking place one week later, they stayed over. Edward and I had to be extra careful when they came over. Charlie's room is all the way across the hall, and he could sleep through anything, but with Phil and Renee sleeping in the guest room across the hall, Edward had suggested he'd skip staying over for a few days, but I refused.
Phil and Renee had a scheduled flight back to Jacksonville early this morning.
Alice, of course, is currently in the process of planning my wedding. I didn't want to make a big deal out of it, but I wanted to make her happy and let her have her fun. No complaining. And besides, this was her day, wasn't it?
I laughed quietly at myself when I heard the sound of a screen opening.
"Edward!" I whispered, startled.
He took a seat on my un-made bed.
"It's barely nine o'clock, Charlie will hear you!"
"Don't worry love, he'd fallen asleep on the living room couch. Surely you can hear his snoring from up here?"
I let out a relieved sigh and placed a folded pair of jeans in my dresser drawer.
"Would you like some help?" he asked.
"Uh, sure. Hand me those college applications," I said, nodding toward the pile of envelopes on the floor next to his foot. He shook his head wordlessly and handed them to me. We'd already had this conversation. Edward had insisted I'd go to Dartmouth after my inevitable newborn phase.
I closed my night table drawer and walked back to my dresser to continue folding clothes. Something black on the light green wall immediately caught my eye. I hated bugs, and summer, unfortunately, was full of them. I'd never gotten quite used to them, even living in Phoenix my whole life. I yelped and sprinted over to Edward, who was intently looking through one of my own photo albums. Of course, being the hopeless klutz that I am, I tripped over a stack of books. Edward caught me mid-fall. I grabbed his arm and led him to the wall, pointing at the bug.
"This little thing?" he smiled. "It's more afraid of you than-"
I cut him off with an impatient whine.
He needlessly dispensed a tissue and pressed it against the wall.
"There," he said, leaning over to kiss my forehead.
I leaned away, eyeing the tissue. He laughed and dropped it out the window, and into the garbage can outside I assumed. Rain began pouring violently, and he closed the screen and the glass tightly.
He shook his head and laughed again.
"Now may I kiss you?" he asked, and leaned in to kiss my lips softly.
"Bella?" a deep voice called from the hallway, followed by a knock on the door.
"Edward, Charlie! How did you not hear him?" I whispered, panicked.
I scrambled and gestured toward the closet, he obeyed, in a blur.
I opened the door.
"Uh.. yeah, Dad?"
"What's going on in here?" Charlie asked.
"Nothing, I-I saw a bug. On the wall. Don't worry, I got it. That thing, that flyswatter you got me," I lied, glancing at the yellow flyswatter on the floor. "I used it, I'm fine."
"Oh," he said, clearing his throat. "Well. I'm- I'm glad you made good use of it."
AN: Yeah, Charlie got Bella a flyswatter for her 18th birthday. Well, along with the digital camera, of course. ;) Reviews = Love. ~ Thanks. :]
