Disclaimer: I don't own the characters, the setting, any of that. I don't even own the stupid eggbeater that was the inspiration for this story. (it was really good cake mix though...)

Eggbeaters

"Ron!" Mrs. Weasley called from the kitchen.

Eight year old Ron raced into the kitchen. It was baking day and he knew what was coming.

"Here you go, sweet." Mrs. Weasley handed him an eggbeater dripping with chocolate.

"Thank you, Mummy!" Ron began to lick the chocolate off the metal when Fred and George bounded into the kitchen. The eggbeater disappeared as quickly as it had come and Mrs. Weasley waved her wand towards the twins.

"Out! You know the rules you two!"

"But Mum! Ron gets to stay in here!"

"Why don't you go outside for a bit?" Mrs. Weasley suggested.

"But-"

"Out."

The twins stuck their tongues out at Ron who whimpered. But as soon as the twins were gone from view, Ron's eggbeater was back in his hands.

He grinned and leaned against his mother's side. "Yum."

EIGHT YEARS LATER

"Ron!" came Mrs. Weasley's voice. "Come here for a minute!"

It was Christmas break and the Trio was safe at the Burrow. All the Weasley's were there as well, except for Percy. Mr. Weasley was also currently at work.

Ron grinned and got up from his chess game against Hermione. He'd rather play Harry, because it was a bit more of a challenge, but Harry was doing some "last minute shopping" with Ginny in Diagon Alley.

"Come on," Ron said to Hermione.

She smiled and took his hand, dropping it as soon as she was on her feet, already blushing slightly.

Ron hurried into the kitchen, Hermione at his heels.

"Oh, hello, Hermione. I thought you'd gone with the rest of them."

Hermione shook her head. "I finished shopping early this year."

"Well, here you go," Mrs. Weasley said with a smile, handing each of them a chocolate covered eggbeater.

Ron began to eagerly lick his, Hermione a bit reluctant at first. She loved chocolate just as much, but she hated it when it got on her nose from the eggbeater.

Mrs. Weasley turned back to her many bowls and dishes filled with sweets and the beginnings of lots of desserts.

Ron stopped licking. "It's not poisonous, you know."

"I know that. It's just messy, that's all."

Ron rolled his eyes dramatically. "Who cares, Hermione? It's just you and me. And Mum."

Hermione sighed and licked the eggbeater. It was delicious.

She and Ron were quiet for a while, carefully cleaning off the warm chocolate.

"Done!" Ron said triumphantly.

Hermione laughed and licked the last bit off her eggbeater. "Me too."

"You've got some on your nose," Ron told her with a grin.

Hermione blushed and tried to wipe it off.

"You're missing," Ron told her.

Hermione laughed again. Ron reached forward and wiped the dab of chocolate off Hermione's nose with his finger. Then he licked it off his finger.

Hermione smiled. "You too," she said quietly, reaching to get the chocolate off Ron's cheek.

She let her hand linger there for a moment, and Ron took her clean eggbeater and set it on the table.

Then he slowly kissed her.

Mrs. Weasley, who was known for having "eyes in the back of her head", chuckled softly to herself while Ron and Hermione pulled away, each a different shade of red.
