AN: This is a Wings!AU where Hedwig Lives!AU

The cold, crisp morning air was doing nothing to improve his mood. Watching the valley below him blur by, but seeing nothing, Blaise did his best to shake off the dream that woke him so rudely before dawn. In the dream, he was once again caught circling a battlefield, unable to do anything but watch as Harry was carried off of it. His screams were silent, and as he dove again, and again, he was never able to break through the invisible barrier.

The normally comforting feeling of arms and legs tangled in the soft bed felt claustrophobic when his eyes finally opened, and without thinking, he sprinted from the bed and onto the deck. Launching himself over the railing of their treehouse, he leapt without a second thought. He glanced to his right and saw Hedwig join him on his initial descent through the upper canopy of trees.

As soon as his body became airborne, dark coppery wings erupted from his back. When they caught the air and his descent turned into a glide, he could finally catch his breath and think about his dream.

It had been seven years since he left school. The war had broken apart the factions of his tribe. Mostly strategic attacks, Blaise was kept insulated from the action. A friend here and there joined one side or the other. However, since his mother kept a residence outside of the boundaries, and without a father, Blaise was able to remain neutral for most of it.

In his dream he was thrown back into the thick of that last battle. Circling over the field, he was forced to look upon the faces of children he went to school with. Whose lives had been ripped apart. But, it was seeing Harry, his warm golden wings broken and his lifeless body in Hagrid's arms that did it. That was his dream, or nightmare rather. That is what woke him in the early predawn hours and the sorrow that overwhelmed him at the thought of Harry being gone.

His muscles had warmed quickly by the flapping of wings, and he could feel the first rays of sun on his back. The white owl kept pace easily with him and seemed to be almost corralling him back towards the treehouse.

"Oi, go away you little twit," he barked at Harry's familiar. The snowy white owl continued flying along with Blaise. Unperturbed, Hedwig remained within Blaise's line of sight. Whenever any of them were agitated, even though he was Harry's familiar, Hedwig would circle them and peck at them like a mother hen.

Hedwig was always there to lead them all home.
