"John Watson, Fifth Northumberland Fusiliers, three years in Afghanistan, a veteran of Kandahar, Helmand, and St. Bartholomew's Hospital. John Hamish Watson, the man who has saved many people in many ways. If a heart is as well handled as my own brain, it would have to be his.
"I remember, the first time he saved me, it had not even been two days after we met at the hospital. He told me, later, that he had yelled my name - much like he had when I fell - before saving my life from the next building. My life depended on his crack shot that night.
"I still admire him for his loyalty towards his loved ones. I could never develop such devotion and hope, not now.
"Before I tricked nearly the entire world into thinking that I was dead, I had to trick John Watson. John Watson, the most loyal, heartfelt man I have ever met, was successfully deceived. I regret giving him the two-year-long mourning he went through, for he is my only friend. Yes, there are others: Lestrade, Molly, Mrs. Hudson, just to name a few; but he is more than just a simple friend.
"For those two years, in which I destroyed the last strands of the great tangle of a web that were Moriarty's connections, I would remember John. As I was tortured, as I fought, and as I won, I would see home. As the saying goes, 'Home is where the heart is', and I am sure it is quite clear to some that where Dr. Watson was, so was home. I could never imagine Baker Street without him.
"When I left, I could not help but feel guilty. I should never have said goodbye, not to John Watson. He would kill me when I came back, if I did come back. He gave me a bloody nose and a cut on my lip. He then proceeded to shave the monster that had been allowed to sprout above his, all for me. Needless to say, he was quite confused.
"That same night, when I met Mary, I felt she was the right woman for him. John Watson, the heart to my head, needed someone to love him back, and Mary was certainly the only woman who could be the heart to give him that love. She still is the only female peer he has ever trusted totally. However, there was another person whom he trusted unconditionally.
"At one point, as Moriarty's scheme was nearly complete, John and I were arrested just outside of Baker Street. As we made our daring escape, I realized how much John trusted me. When I pointed the gun at the policemen, my companion's expression clearly showed copious amounts of worry; his face almost relaxed when I pointed that same deadly weapon towards his temple. That feeling of unwavering trust shown between us that day has recently given way, replaced by something new.
"I can tell that this new emotion is something I have never truly experienced before, and therefore I may never be ready to express it, but if I do not convey it now, then I shall die before anyone knows the truth. I really do hate living in an unobservant world.
"There is something I have meant to say for so long, something I have never had a chance to say, something no words can describe. I am completely and utterly captivated by this individual, who has shown so much sincerity and loyalty that I have been repeating myself over and over. I adore him, and I will always cherish his friendship. Perhaps sometime I will have the pleasure of experiencing something more in the future with my Watson."
