Darkness, nothing but darkness. Days after day, my only comfort was the darkness. I thought I would go mad.
Searing pain shot through my head as my eyes cracked open, the light blinding me. As my eyes adjusted all I could see was white. White walls, white curtains, white tables, white door, White eyes.
White eyes? I had to blink a few times, clearing my slightly bleary vision. He was there. He was here. He was sitting here. His hair slightly messy, a very unusual sight, he had been here for a while.
"Neji?"
He stirred in his chair, eyes coming into focus. He sat up straighter and reached for my hand. Grasping it tightly, it felt like he was trying to keep me from slipping away. A grunt escaped my lips and he loosened his grip but only a little.
"How are you feeling? "
"How long have you been here, how long have I been here?"
"It's been three weeks since the mission and I've been here for three weeks."
He faltered on his last syllables, still having difficulty with his emotions. I was touched. He had been here with me all this time. All this time when he could be training and doing so much else.
"Why?"
"Why what?"
"Neji, why did you stay here? Why aren't you training or…"
The searing pain in my head increased as I continued, slowing me down until speech failed me.
"Tenten, I..I couldn't leave your side. Not after what happened. I couldn't leave you alone. Never."
"Neji."
By now I was fading in and out of consciousness, my hearing becoming clouded. I could only catch one more thing, the most shocking and unexpected yet greatest thing I could have ever heard before the darkness took over.
"Because, I love you Tenten."
Author's Note: My first story/oneshot! I think it's ok. Let me know what you think, that would be awesome. Don't kill me if the story sucked...
