When the downpour hit him with the suddenness only a spring shower could offer, all Takeshi could do was sputter and curse. The one day he forgot to bring his umbrella. The one day!
He bent over the papers he clasped tightly to his chest and tossed an obligatory curse on Kentaro's head for good measure. Somehow this had to be that baka's fault. Every rotten thing that had happened to him over the last few years could be traced back and blamed on Kentaro.
It wasn't exactly a fair assessment, but Takeshi was in no mood to be fair.
"Takipon! Takipon!"
As if his day wasn't rotten enough already! He deliberately ignored the calling voice. Even if he were inclined to deal with Kentaro - which he wasn't - there was no way he was answering to that stupid nickname.
Instead, he picked up his pace.
Trudging his way through the rain blindly, mind not on where he was stepping, Takeshi was taken completely by surprise when he reached the curb. His feet met air instead of concrete and he would have gone sprawling into the middle of the street if strong hands hadn't caught him from behind.
"Are you all right, Takipon?!"
Those same hands, warm through his soaked shirt and against his rain-chilled skin, lifted him up easily and deposited him back onto the sidewalk a goodly ways away from the street.
Takeshi could only stare in bemusement at both the blank-faced aide who was holding an umbrella over them both and at Kentaro who seemed determined to make a thorough injury check. He forgot, sometimes, just how fast and strong Kentaro really was. It was an easy thing to do, what with the childlike personality the other man insisted on holding onto even now that they were adults.
"Well… No harm done, I think. Takipon?" Dark eyes peered down at him in concern and he finally shook off his stupor.
"I'm fine, Kentaro…." He wanted to leave it at that, but his innate honesty forced him to continue. "Thanks to you."
"What are friends for?" the only man foolish enough, or stubborn enough, to insist on being his friend asked with a beaming smile.
What indeed.
The End
