Cowardice

By: ChoCedric

Dennis Creevy gets along with his brother like they are two peas in a pod. As children, they do everything together, and Dennis truly cherishes the relationship he has with his brother, for not all siblings get along like they do. He hopes it will always be this way, him and his brother, together for life.

But then, Colin receives his Hogwarts letter, and Dennis doesn't get one yet. Even though he's extremely jealous, their bond still holds strong, and Dennis wishes Colin all the luck in the world. He can't believe his brother is actually a wizard, a wizard like he read about in all the fairy tales he liked as a child.

But then, he gets the surprise of his life two years later when he receives his very own Hogwarts acceptance letter. He feels so joyous, for he and his brother are back together again. Their bond is as strong as ever, and they both idolize Harry Potter, the brave young lad who struck down a Dark Lord at a very young age. They walk the corridors together, plotting and planning how to win Harry's friendship. Their delight never ends, it seems.

But now, Dennis feels absolutely disgusted with himself as he stares down at his brother's inert and lifeless body. Colin, the brave brother he'd grown up with, snuck back into the battle to help end the Dark Lord's reign. And Dennis stayed behind. Coward, he hears a voice shout inside his head. The one monumental thing you could have done to make a difference, you didn't do. He and his brother shared everything, except for this experience.

And now, Dennis never wants to return to the wizarding world. It used to hold fascination and marvel for him, but now it holds nothing but bitter memories and reminders of his cowardice. If only he'd gone with his brother, the two might still be together now. He is angry at the world, angry at it for taking his hero away from him. And Dennis Creevy doesn't know if he even has the will to live anymore. If Colin's not there, what does he have to live for?
