Yet another one shot with Brynn! If you like her, read my full story with her in it on my page. :) (Kili is 17, Brynn is 12.)

Her mother said she was jealous, but she swore she was not. Jealous was pouting and whining and complaining, and Brynn was certainly not doing that. She had dignity – unlike some people she could mention. Brynn wasn't jealous. She was mad. And annoyed. And everything else except jealous.

She was justified, she thought. After all, who wouldn't be annoyed with foolish girls chasing around your brother? Yes, Kili was attractive, and kind, but he was far from perfect. All you had to do was look a little closer and you'd find that out. It wasn't that Brynn thought the girls could do better; it was that she knew they couldn't, but Kili most certainly could. But it didn't stop them from nearly drooling over him. It was beginning to irritate.

And honestly, Kili was not helping the situation. Fili was equally as attractive and kind and all those other things that made up a decent boy, but he had less of a following. Perhaps because he had the brains not to be a little flirt. Oh, Kili would deny that he ever played around just a little with the charming winks and sly smirks – and he was subtle. But not subtle enough.

Anyway, Brynn was just about at the end of her rope. It was a pretty long rope, too, which meant that things were fairly bad. The girls just kept getting in the way. Interrupting the siblings' outings, 'tripping' in front of Kili, coming calling because 'they were just walking by'. Eye roll after eye roll. It was getting out of hand.

So Dis said Brynn was jealous. Jealous that her brother was distracted, jealous that his time was being spent on girls, jealous that their trio could expand. But it wasn't like that. Brynn wanted Kili to have a life. The last one – their trio expanding – did worry her, but she kept a fairly tight lid on that particular emotion. Mostly, Brynn was worried about Kili. She knew he didn't really enjoy all the attention, but he was far too kind to do anything about it. He wouldn't tell any girl to get lost, so they wouldn't be hurt. He seemed to miss the fact that the longer they thought he might like them, the more they'd be hurt when they found out the truth. And in the meantime, he walked around being treated like a piece of meat.

One day, after a girl who had been trying to get Kili for months came and left the house, Brynn decided to talk to her brother about it. She entered his and Fili's shared room, finding him sitting on his bed fixing her quiver strap.

"Relaldy again?" She asked, leaning against the doorframe.

Kili nodded, tossing the old strap on the floor and fingering the new one. "Yeah."

"You're getting tired of this, aren't you?"

A big sigh. "Yeah."

Brynn walked over to sit on Fili's bed, across from Kili. She tucked her feet under her and waited for him to put the quiver down. He knew a talk was coming, and gave her his full attention.

"I know you're trying not to hurt anyone, but you must tell them your true feelings – or lack of them – so they don't go on hoping you may fall for them."

"Tisn't so easy, darling." Kili pursed his lips. "Mama says it will pass."

"And we just have to wait for them to grow up? That is ridiculous!"

Kili smiled at her, looking far too much like he knew what was going on in her head. "Are you jealous, dearest Bree?"

Brynn grabbed Fili's pillow and threw it at Kili's head. He didn't dodge it, and it mussed up his hair in a satisfactory manner for Brynn.

"I am not jealous, Kili. I'm annoyed. Wherever you go, they're always there. They use you – you're too nice! Fili thinks so too."

Kili laughed, combing his hair out with his fingers. "So you've discussed this with Fili, have you?"

Brynn paused. "Well – no… but you can tell he thinks it!"

"Okay, okay. So what, you want me to tell these girls to get lost?"

Brynn scowled. It didn't sound so good when he put it like that. It wouldn't be so awfully blunt. They were royalty, for goodness sakes, Balin had taught them how to spin even the nastiest of news into something semi pleasing to the ear. With a little bit of effort, Kili could come up with something passable as kind.

"Brynn, are you certain you aren't worried about the idea of me courting someone?"

Instantly, Brynn grew defensive. "You aren't that special, brother."

"It could be Fili too."

Or, to Brynn's unease, both at once. And where would that leave her?

Finally, Brynn looked up at Kili, head tilted to one side. "I don't want to sound selfish, Kili, and I swear I don't mean it to be that way, but – I don't want our trio to disband."

Kili nodded, and Brynn knew he understood what she meant. She felt the world better for saying it out loud. Part of her had been afraid that her brothers would think her childish for her thoughts.

"I know how you feel. But I promise you, darling, it wouldn't be disbanding. It would be… expanding. Any girl I find will have to be approved by you and Fili and mama and Uncle Thorin, and she will have to understand that she'll have to share my heart, for someone else already holds it."

Brynn beamed, knowing he spoke of her. "I won't let go, Kili. Never."

"That does me good to hear." Kili picked up Brynn's quiver again. "You're right, I should be more clear in my feelings to the girls."

Brynn threw up her hands. "Thank you!"

Kili chucked a scrap piece of leather at her, rolling his eyes. "I said you were right, you don't have to rub it in. I am fixing your quiver after all."

Brynn got off Fili's bed and kissed Kili on the side of the head before walking towards the door. "Yes, and I appreciate it muchly. I'll leave you to it now."

"Love you, darling." Kili called over his shoulder.

"Love you too, brother." Brynn replied, shutting the door.

Wouldn't you love to have Kili as a brother? And Fili too! Man, Brynn is lucky! I hope you liked it! Reviews are greatfully accepted. :)
