"Jacob?" I looked around for the person I was searching for, but I only saw trees, and grass that was near a foot high. Where was he?

"Jacob?" I said again. I looked around once more.

"Boo!"

The sound of someone's voice startled me, but I soon realized it was only him.

Sighing, I exclaimed, "Jacob, you scared me!"

He laughed. "Well, that's what I intended to do." He wrapped his strong arms around me, then placed his hand on my head to ruffle my hair. My bronze curls fell into my face.

I scolded him. "If you don't start showing you have some good manners, I'll teach them to you myself!"

"And how do you expect to do that?" He tried his best not to grin, but failed.

I swatted his arm. "Simple; I'll give you a good spanking!"

He chuckled. "Come on, Nessie, let's get you home."

Jacob and I had been hunting. I'd much rather have the donated human blood that my grandfather could purchase for me. But instead, I had to make due with the blood of animals that my mother and father insisted that I get used to. It didn't taste quiet as good, but it was okay, and I got to play with Jacob while we were out.

"Ready?" Jacob asked, dropping his arms.

I nodded. "Yes, I'm ready."

He took a few steps so that we were about two feet away from each other, and phased. I climbed onto his back and we headed to my cottage, where I lived with my mother and father, Bella and Edward Cullen.

"Mom? Dad?" I opened the door to the house and took a step in. Jacob had gone back into the trees to phase and was now at my side again.

"In here, Nessie," my father answered. I walked to the living room where my mother and father sat, smiling as Jacob and I entered.

"Did you hunt well?" my mother asked.

"Yes, very well," I replied, hugging her neck. She laughed as I put my hand to her cheek to show her the fun I'd had with Jacob.

"Five deer, Jacob?" she asked, still laughing.

Her laugh, similar to my aunts' laughs as well as mine, sounded like wind chimes. It danced through the air musically, filling it with the joy of my happy family-- It was as if I lived in a fairytale; everything seemed perfect.--My father smiled when he heard it, and I couldn't help but smile, too.

Jacob chuckled, as did my father when I hugged him, and placed my hand on his face. "I was hungry," Jacob explained. "Running after this little thing really works up my appetite." He grabbed me by the top of my arms and twirled me around.

"Hey, Jacob?" My mother stood up from her seat on the sofa.

"Yeah?" He sat me down, but still held onto my hand, like the big brother I never had.

"Carlisle wants to see Reneesme. Do you mind taking her over there?" Carlisle was my not-so-very-old grandfather.

"Not at all," he replied. "Come on, Nessie." He lifted me to his shoulders and I giggled as he tickled me.

"We'll see you two later!" I called back to my mother and father as Jacob took off in his human form.
