It was a warm summer day, the sun was shining brightly, just barely hidden behind a cloud that was floating in the sky. The grass was cold, not freezing, but a good change from the heat of the benches located nearby. Lily Evans was laying in the grass beneath the shade of a willow tree, happily flipping through the pages of a book. She had been laying there in the middle of a park near her home, waiting for her boyfriend to show up.
He was an hour late, though James Potter was usually late to events that Lily scheduled. She presumed it was because he was a bit of a perfectionist, more than she was, wanting his appearance to be perfect. It did manage to slightly confuse her, however, because if he was such a perfectionist wouldn't he want to be on time? Nevertheless, it was common occurrence, one the redhead didn't mind it. It showed everyone that he was still human, no matter how hard he tried to prove he was more than that.
She heard the grass rustle in a steady rhythm, sounding so close to footsteps that she lifted her head up, turning to look behind her. She was met by a pair of deep brown eyes and a toothy grin, the sun casting a shadow onto James' face, defining his features even more. He stood with a red-and-white checkered picnic blanket and a game of Wizarding chess, Lily having prepared and brought the lunch basket.
Lily stood and helped James put the blanket down before setting the woven basket down on top and taking out two sandwiches. The two sat and laughed, talked, told jokes. They were content in what they had, they were happy with each other, despite their differences in the past. Lily and James were complete opposites, as could be said by any of their many teachers. But you know what they say…
Opposites attract.
